Culling problems
  • I just can't! =)) I've got way too many herds going, but every time I go to sort I can't put them up for sale or even auction. I really need to sell the BluGroven herd I picked up from my secondary account. I've also got too many mares for my snowflake and PaintBrush herds, but again I start to look through them and they're just so pretty. :)) I need help! I admit it! I'm a Pixel Pony Addict!
  • =)) I work on snowflakes bluuuu ;;)
Licensed for Onyx, Watercolor, Plaid, Mushroom, Splash M, Phantom Autumn, Ice 4, Ice 16, and Chinchilla - ID: 256300
  • Unfortunately, most of my foundation mares aren't even snowflake, they're just dark bay.
  • I’m ok with lines mares too ;)
Licensed for Onyx, Watercolor, Plaid, Mushroom, Splash M, Phantom Autumn, Ice 4, Ice 16, and Chinchilla - ID: 256300
  • Hey, now! Never said I was culling those...though honestly I need to. I've got well over 6000 horses. This does include foundations, lined, and show ponies. Still too many though.
  • Wow! I have like 1,000 I think
Licensed for Onyx, Watercolor, Plaid, Mushroom, Splash M, Phantom Autumn, Ice 4, Ice 16, and Chinchilla - ID: 256300
  • Yea...I have 1,866...really need to go through them and snip and sell my older horses I don't use no more.

Also waaaaay off topic (need to get it off my chest, lol), But I just cooked some amazing fluffy eggs! Really proud of myself!
  • Wow...6,000 is a lot! I currently hold probably 400, includes show horses, pasture mares, and other breeding stock! I have stricter breeding qualifications these last few seasons so maybe a lot of my foals/horses have been sold or auctioned off

Edit: @Wolvevenfrost Good job! I had to make an omelet in my Culinary lab class yesterday and it wasn't fluffy so my chef took points off haha! It's harder to do then people think!

  • Yeah I’m about to go through and do a mass culling I think. @Bluchrystals, the BluGroven herd looks amazing!

  • @kgstable thanks! :x I've never made an omelet before but the trick I used was low heat, no stirring, wait for the bottom to cook just enough then slowly push the edges to the middle and keep doing it until you the egg is solid enough to start folding it in onto itself. And keep slowly doing it until they are cooked and wallah! Nice fluffy eggs! If your adding stuff add it on top of your beat eggs in the pan, it'll come out better. Great now I'm hijacking this post lol. I need to make a post about this, lol.
  • I currently have 708, but I have about 70 in the auction right now.

I just culled my DP/pinto barn. It was a little hard, but it feels so good! I’ve gone through my foundation barns to cull some I don’t need, too. (And my show barns to cull those leveled off at the bottom of their classes)
  • @LCorona, that's the problem I have. I go through and they all look so nice! @Paradox, I haven't figured out how to cull for that yet. Do you go through each one's page? So far I just keep everything over 20hbs daily. I do have a 173k payout though.
  • how long do you give your newbies to get to 20 hbs daily?
Licensed in chinchilla, mushroom & splash M
  • I go through each ones page and check to see if they’re leveled off. Then, if they are, I go look at their records and see where they place.

I tend not to keep anything below 10 PT so I go through my 11 year olds. So far, I don’t have an overwhelming amount each season lol Eventually it will be harder.

  • Since DP is a hidden gene I would probably suggest what I have been doing with my KP herd.

I mark all my Homo KP horses with a prefix KP (which groups everyone together in one nice easy to access pile in all my drop down menus) and their foals automatically get marked kp since they are guaranteed to be het. Their foals don’t get marked until they prove they are carriers (or are homo themselves. I periodically go through all my Homo KP horses pedigree and try to trace the KP descent and adjust any ancestors names to reflect their carrier status.)

Then I cull any het. Kit horses since KP needs 2 to show I just make sure I always have lots of Kit genes playing in that herd.

If I had DP I would mark any liver or chocolate horses DP and their foals dp and possibly cull horses with only one Sty or none
Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
  • I try to buy pointed foals, but normally they get to twenty in the seven to ten yr range if all they do is show. I can cull my snips easily enough by testing them against each other, the foundations are a little harder.
  • I feel ya @Blu I just looked and I have 8506 horses at the start of my cull this evening lol we’ll see how many I keep
  • I'm going to try to spend the next two weeks culling. Yes I said two weeks :)) love collecting them, but going through them one by one gets hard when you're talking hundreds a day!
  • I don’t have that kind of patience lol I’m probably going to have to always keep my barn on the smaller side lol

(I say as I keep buying more pasture space. Oops)
  • LOL, I totally can relate! I need to get stricter with my mares and cull more studs and make more show ponies. But with all my projects going, it's so hard!

  • I'm at over 7k horses and just dumped HUNDREDS of older show horses in the auction. /whistles It's going to murder my paycout but give me the cash NOW, which clearly I need for GMTs. Ha! And make it easier on Ammit's server, of course. ;)

Culling my breeding stock is another matter, though...

But I'm EXPANDING my foundation stock, actually, since my new policy of COMPARE TEST EVERYTHING means my numbers of lined stock drops dramatically at higher gens.

Seriously, I've had like two years in a row where I get no new horses for like, the 5th gen. :x

Will this bite me in the butt later? Who knows! Let's find out!

In general though I'll go through and 1) look at their pictures. If they don't excite me and don't carry sneaky genes I need, out they go. 2) Check their AFPT after at least 3 foals. Despite my comp testing, some still fail my AFPT guidelines and then they get chucked into the show barns.

Sometimes I cry a little inside when I spay one. It happens. XD
