Does he have DP?
  • So I have an absolutely terrible eye for DP.

I have this stallion, do you think he has DP? He produces mainly super dark livers. For example, this filly.

I am almost certain she is hom DP? But I could be completely wrong. What do you think?
  • They both have. The second is homozygous. There is no need to ask if they have "liver" or "chocolate" in their color, that means they have at least one copy of DP :)
    ID 195859
  • They are both liver chestnuts, which is chestnut with DP. A dead giveaway to if a chestnut has DP or not is when you color test them and they come up as “liver chestnut” instead of just “chestnut”.
The first one is heterozygous DP and the second one is homozygous DP
  • Out of his offspring, these are examples of:
    Normal chestnut:

  • “chocolate palomino” is a DP version of normal palomino. It is the same thing as the liver chestnut vs. normal chestnut- so if you own a horse that color tests liver chestnut or chocolate palomino, those are dead DP giveaways :)
