Embryos have as much chance of being altered as any foal made whose parents have no pasture bonus.

It takes an egg and a straw and makes a foal using a surrogate mare, which does use up the surrogate's breeding for the year. The foal appears in your primary barn right away, like a normal non-pasture breeding.

Pros: you can get more babies from any individual pairing! or if you're broke at the moment, save up eggs/embryos and use them later

Cons: no pasture bonus, surrogate's breeding is used up

I will be persnickity and say that, once you combine the straw and the egg, the embryo goes in your freezer. There it stays until you want to use it, or sell it. If you want to USE it you have use the Implant Embryo tab and implant that puppy in your surrogate. I say this because I can't tell you how many times I have created the embryo then gone rushing over to my primary barn to see the foal, and it wasn't there! DERP!

The other thing about embryos is that you can pull an egg from your mares every 5 days, therefore your fancy mare can have 3-4 foals each month. I use 5 or fewer mares of each generation so that I have something fun to do after pastures are bred. I ONLY use embryo transfer to get higher PT scores, and if they get some bling it is an extra bonus. The couple of times I've gotten stallions that pass SBA (from embryo transfers) I've been thrilled!

You are also a bit more likely to get twins.

Not only can you get 3-4 eggs out of your fancy mares, you can ALSO do a mass pull around the end of the month to maximize your eggs :)

With a basic upgrade I believe that you are able to make an embryo using a straw to fertilize a mare's egg inside her. Then the embryo is removed and stored in your freezer to be implanted into a surrogate mare when you are ready. I'm not sure if you can use an embryo created by someone else with a premium upgrade.

With a premium upgrade, you are able to create an embryo using a straw and an egg pulled from a mare, a slightly different (and more expensive) technique.

I do know that it is against the rules to ask someone with a premium upgrade use a straw you "give" them to create an embryo for you to use.
