Show/cull question
  • Out of these two show ponies, which one should be culled? Pretty sure I know, but I'm trying to make sure I've got a good understanding on it before I start to cull my older ponies.

  • If you really need the space then the second one should be culled. He’s placing at the bottom of his classes

Silver is recently levelled off but is still placing high so is still adding to his daily bonus. When he levels up to the next level then he could be culled.

  • Good I figured them right. That only took a year to grasp. =))
  • Lol

I grew up with the old show system that you really had to examine all your horses shows and placings to decide when to reshow or how long to wait to enter again. I went through monthly to cull and It became second nature quickly size up a horse and decide to keep it or not.

With the new system I haven’t really looked at my show horses shows to cull in years (don’t really cull them normally just let them live life)

  • I don't normally cull, but I'm trying to keep my barn size the same. To keep filling and breeding...some have to go.
  • I would also cull the second and keep the first.

I wasn’t going to cull show horses, originally, but Ammit adding the lifetime payout makes it worthwhile to cull to contain growth and get the most out of the space that I have.
  • I've also been picking up young pointed show stock, so culling older ponies is helping me, in some places, put a yearling with half the daily already built in that stall.
  • I like to do that, too. :D
