kp1 & 2 on a horse
  • Is the sabino what's going on on her neck or is it the KPs interacting?

Note: I totally did a dumb and should've bred her dam to my KP2 stud, not my KP stallion and I wouldn't have this problem

  • Looks like the KPs are giving the mark on her neck. Very pretty! :)

  • I thought that's what it was. She was a plain looking bay filly at first but I GMTed the other kit gene from her sire and then she exploded with color and I knew it had to be the KP but was confused as I thought they both had to be hom to show up

  • That’s definitely KP2 that’s expressing, which you only need 1 copy to show :)

  • Kp and Kp2 are in the same spot, so homozygous Kp gives the clouds, so does one copy of Kp with one copy of Kp2. Homozygous Kp2 I think gives the lacey edges?

  • I thought KP2 was on a 'separate spot' to KP? if not i totally didn't know and wasted $$ adding both homozygous to one of my foundation studs. gotta try and find the forum into post now oops

  • KP2 only needs 1 copy and 1 kit gene to express. It causes the lacy edges. KP(1) needs 2 copies and 2 kit genes. 1 of copy each gene, KP(1) and KP2, causes the cloud and the lacy edges and I believe only needs 1 kit gene to express both but don’t quote me on then. They are on the same allele.
