adding more horses at this time. Some Ex Pro (some patterned) mares and a few more Rank Specials.
-
KP is a special added gene that you get from gene modification, not just the Kit^something. Do your horses actually have the Kit Promoter gene?
-
@smswiere, some of the horses do, in fact, carry KP. CP Get Appointed is an example because the sire is homozygous KP so he passed on one copy of KP.
-
If I have labeled a horse has KP, that horse, does indeed have one copy of KP via sire or dam. In the case of the one yearling, he is a clone of a homozygous KP horse, therefore he also is homozygous for it. There are three carriers currently left and the one HZ one. Some of my KP stallions are hz roan only, so I made mention of what KIT genes the ones I have for sale have. I don't often put the Sb3 ones up for sale, so I thought it was worth mentioning. Tobiano was the other pattern I had the most of and then I had one that was HZ roan only that has already sold.Post edited by Compass Point at 2016-01-18 00:54:53

just added some g2 mares. I'm focusing more on sport ponies, so Warmbloods I was able to part with have started getting tossed up. There are KP carriers (W2, Sb3, Sb1), GP carriers, Liver chestnuts (both homozygous for DP and heterozygous for DP), some sabino1 horses, a couple of S+/Sb2 horses....there will be more, but I'm out of room :)
-
oh, and some of the mares are g3...and they go back on both sides to homozygous KP foundations so there IS a chance they may have one copy of KP. But no promises :)
-
How can you tell if a horse has KP or not? Is there a visual clue or do you have to make a guess based on their family tree?
-
Homozygous KP horses, with a game on each Kit place will have to any patches on their body. Heterozygous KP horses, or homozygous KP horses with only one Kit gene will not exhibit this roaning.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!
-
On my g2--I know they have a copy because a parent has a copy. On the g3--it would be a guess until you could breed to find out, and even then it could take several foals. I only guarantee that the g2s have a copy if KP and that the clone is HZ KP. The others have a possible KP carry based on pedigree.

Here is a good example of one of those may or may nots for sale: http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3329886
Both of her parents are KP carriers. We know this because each of their sires were HZ KP
She has roan and tobiano. She doesn't show any of the visible HZ KP with two KIT gene looks. So. She is either a carrier (got a copy from one parent) or she is not (neither parent passed on their sole copy).
I would breed her to a HZ KP with two KIT genes to try and figure out if she has KP. If she pops out a foal with those roany/bleachy sections, you then know she is a carrier. -
I just added several more mares--DP, g2, g3, and a couple g4 mares. 11.something are on the higher end of PTs up...
come have a looksie :)
