Guide to the New Pastures
-
Pastures are a huge and exciting change in the dynamic of the game. Just like in real life if you put a mare and a stallion in a pasture and leave them to it you will come back to babies. Pastures are an automatic way to not only breed your horses but make automatic income from it.
About pastures in general
Every member in the game has a primary pasture. The size of this pasture changes based on your upgrade level. They start with room for 1 stallion and 10 mares, and increase until there is room for 3 stallions and 100 mares at level 5.
Level 1: 1 stallion 20 mares
Level 2: 1 stallion 30 mares
Level 3: 2 stallions 45 mares
Level 4: 2 stallions 60 mares
Level 5: 3 stallions 100 mares
In addition to your primary pasture you will be able to purchase additional pastures (1/30, 2/60 and 3/100 sizes) just like barns
Breeding with pastures
You can add or remove horses as much as you want from your pasture but the pasture will only breed one time per season. At some point approximately two weeks into breeding season your horses will autocratically produce foals. Stallion and mare combinations will be assigned at random. Once the pasture produces foals it will not produce again until next season. You WILL BE CHARGED 500 hbs for every foal produced to cover vet fees. The produced foals will stay in the pasture until you remove them or until the next crop of foals is born.
Showing/Outside Breeding
Horses in the pasture can not be shown or bred to by any means other then the pasture.
Email notification
Pastures will generate emails (a setting that you will be able to turn off). The email will let you know when your foals are born and a second email will remind you to clean out your new foals before they are automatically removed from the game.
Profit
It costs 500 hbs to produce every foal on the pasture, if you run out of money it will stop producing foals. You can take those foals out of the pasture right away and sell them for 1000 or 2500 by culling them. If you simply wait the foals will be removed from the game and pay you 1000 hbs each automatically with no effort on your part. A 100 mare pasture will produce 50,000 hbs a season automatically or over 125,000 a season with hand culling.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Are you able to still pull straws from stallions that are in a pasture? Also, after the horses in the pasture are bred automatically, can you take the stallion out and breed him live cover (assuming he has breedings left)?
-
This is awesome! Can't wait to get on a real computer (not my phone) and play with this! Thanks Ammit!
-
There was a post on FB that these would be available for hbs - was that a typo or am I missing where we can do that? :-p
-
There never was such a post.Need to contact me? Read this first.

It looks like someone else was talking about something like that but I never made any promises about that.Need to contact me? Read this first.

This is sooo awesome Ammit! Thanks for making it easier for breeding more than one horse at a time!
I've already got ideas on more, lol.Was Rebecca Iavelli on the old forum

Think! - It's not illegal yet. -
Love the new pastures, thank you! I was wondering if at some stage the list of mares to be added could have the ones we have already added removed from the list? If that makes sense? If too hard don't worry and I'm sure I'll work it out!
-
No because it would be a PITA to move them between pastures since they would not show up on the list.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I am loving this already. Do you think there will ever be an option to search by pastures? Don't shoot me, just had to ask :D
-
One feature that I really like is that it shows you pictures of the horses you have in there. Since naming isn't always easy for me, I have used the same name several times between stables and games. This means that I sometimes forget which Celtic Twilight (for example) I am working with since I have one in HJ1 and one in HJ2. Now I can actually see which stallion I am using.Craven Hill - 86081

Thanks Ammit! I just got a chance to spend some time on H/J this week and come across the pasture option. I love the idea and I'm looking forward to playing with it!

A few questions, one I saw asked but didn't see the answer.
Can you pull straws and or eggs from the horses in the pasture?
I know the horses don't show but do they get trained while in pasture? -
There is no need to spam your post in multiple places I simply had not been able to answer yet. At the moment
yes you can pull staws and eggs but I don't think it will stay that way. I will be doing some locking down of things on the pasture.
Yes they train.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I posted twice because I thought I had posted on the wrong thread for questions and felt it got lost.
-
I was wondering, as far a frame goes, if I have a stud & mare in the pastures who both carry frame, will there still be that chance that they could get bred together & create a lethal foal?
-
I'm guessing yes BlackMagic, they could have a lethal foal.
-
Yes BlackMagic, that could happen. You have a one in four chance of a dead foal if those two cross.
-
I was just going over the the pasture regulations, and wanted to inform you Ammit, that a mare in pasture, is still able to be shown.
-
There are many ways to show. How do you mean?Need to contact me? Read this first.

Question: how do we move foals out of pasture? Or has that not been written in yet? LOL

Good to see I wasn't the only one thinking I must be daft for not knowing how to move them out.
-
Thank you Ammit for this great new feature! It's been exciting to see how the breedings would turn out - and I'm also relieved I am not having an 'age moment' as I couldn't work out how to liberate the foals.
*waving from way over here* -
I may have missed where this was said but does the "bonus" for keeping mares in pastures reset every game year or does it roll over into the next year?
-
Whew glad someone else asked how to get the babies out, I was feeling dumb :)

Abbey Road on HJ2 #382 (spend way more time there) -
Where are the foals? I have had the same mares/studs in that same pasture since last season but no foals yet?
-
Foals aren't generally "born" until the 14th or so. You will get an email when they are!
-
I don't think it the breeding bonus resets as such Rockinghorse, not as far as I know anyway, but 30 days is the maximum it can accrue
