Star and Gold Generations
-
So right now I'm allowing:
Foundations with Yellow/C and Red/B papers
2G with Red/B or Blue/A
3Gs with Blue/A
Is it too soon to require Star/Gold papers in 4th generation? Is there any way to obtain Gold/Star sooner in generations? I'm not trying to rush quality but I want to make sure I don't drag out longer then I need to because of subpar breeding :)
Thanks! -
I struggle to get *Star/*Gold at generation 5, not sure if it’s possible at generation 4 from c/yellow foundation ancestors.Thanked by 1kgstable

From C/yellow, not worth striving for 4th gen Star/Gold. With just one Red parent, I know it’s possible.
From B/red, absolutely.Bluegrass #143376 * Specializing in Iced Axiom (ExPro Cobs) and Iced Phantoms (PF Riding Ponies)

From my B/Red foundations, I definitely get Star and Gold in the 4th Generation, and I expect it by the 5th GenThanked by 1kgstable

I have gotten Star/Gold at 4th gen from C/Yellow, but it's very uncommon. For me, it's more of a surprise bonus that is nice to have at that generation. I do require Star/Gold at 5th gen.Thanked by 1kgstable

I think a typical standard players aim for from C/Yellow lines is:
C/yellow
B/Red
A/Blue
A/Blue (superior)
Star/Gold
It’s what I model my program after. I did get a 4G Star from my C/Yellow line this season. I did not except it at all! But I do suspect that my main stallion in that line have mostly been very high for their paper level.
I have a fairly hard time getting passing + superior 4Gs as it is. If I required Star/Gold by 4G, I would have exactly one. If you want the challenge, it’s definitely possible, though.
From my exceptional line, I have been allowing 2G reds/Bs, but now that that line is growing I’m starting to only keep 2G blue/A for breeding. (With rare exception)

Paradox, that's the standard I use for my horses too, but they all must be superior to their parents for each generation. All my 2nd gens are superior to their parents, all my 3rd gens are superior to their parents, and so on.
Right now I have 7 Star papered stallions at 4th gen, and 21 Gold papered mares at 4th gen using that standard.Post edited by Forestshadow at 2020-02-09 18:33:26 -
I test all of mine superior, too. Well, I’m working on it, anyway. :)) So many mares. :))
-
Yeah, it takes time. At first, they were ultra rare. Now I tend to get at least one Star/Gold per season. It took time, and tightening the criteria I used to keep intact horses. It might even get better now that we have mare testing too, so mare lag isn't the issue it used to be anymore.
-
@paradoxpheonix I'm that way with Blue/A 2G's as well, I keep the ones I like the most but this season I cut A BUNCH of 2G red/B foals because I just get too many and am striving for Blue/A's
Thanks everyone for the help! Looks like 5th gen is the time to require Gold/Star :) -
This is an example
FS Kojafalakela 4 S
She has mostly C foundation sires and a mix of Red/Yellow foundation mares
FS Kojafazireli 4 S
Her main sire line is C-B-A and her main dam line is Y-R-B, but she's still a mix of paper levels at the foundation and 2nd gen level. -
This is super helpful! I had the same question since I'm just now starting to breed 3rd generation foals.
-
I forgot to mention that the S letter at the end of the mare names in those pedigrees means that they tested superior to their dams.
