Consistents throwing Inconsistents?
-
I just pasture bred ~20 horses for the first time and most, if not all, had consistent parents. I feel like I ended up with a lot of Inconsistents, so I'm curious how many inconsistents you guys find you get from consistent x consistent breedings?
-
Consistency, like many other aspects of the game, involves a range of possible results from any cross. Horses that are labeled "Consistent" by Performance Testing may have up to a +/-2 level of inconsistency. This means that if their base score is 24, there is a possibility that in any given show their score may be 22, 23, 24, 25, 26--a 5 point spread. Some "consistent" horses are perfectly consistent--Perfect Foundations and Exceptionally Perfect Foundations. Other consistent horses may be +/-0, +/-1, or +/-2. The only way to figure that out is by checking the records of their show scores over at least a month or even longer.
Inconsistent horses may have up to something like +/-5 inconsistency or a possible 11 point spread in their show scores from class to class. (I'm not perfectly sure of the exact number here.) They seldom show up any more (at least I haven't seen any lately), but at one time there were sometimes horses that tested "Very Inconsistent."
That was in the "good old days" when we didn't have a showing bonus and so we did our best to predict when every horse would be most likely to place in the top half of its class so that it would earn more money than the entry fee. I spent many hours making charts for every horse to keep track of its potential score.
Since Ammit created the Showing Bonus based on the total that horse every horse contributes to the stable's income, whether it is shown or not, life has become less hectic.
Anyway, before I got sidetracked, each parent of a foal has potential range for its contribution to the foal's PT and Consistency score (as well as it's breeding ability), and there is no way to exactly predict what is going to happen. So, you can cross two consistent horses and get an inconsistent foal, or two inconsistent horses and get a consistent foal. It's been a long time since I've kept track of that aspect of foaling, so I can't give you any percentages. -
thank you so much for the info! that definitely clears it up, I thought it was a "one or the other" type of value and got worried haha. thanks!

:D Ammit has made this mimic real life TOO much sometimes! :P

You're very welcome, muirgen. Answering questions for new players is my favorite part of the game, though I do tend to give a dissertation rather than a simple answer. :D That's because the game is so complex that simple answers can leave a lot out.

hey I'd rather have a full understanding of it! c:

Welcome muirgen!
Question I've been meaning to ask: does how consistent the parents are make a difference to the foal's possible range?
Example: Are two perfectly consistent horses more likely to give me a perfectly consistent foal than two horses with +/2 consistency?Thanked by 1muirgen
