How do you decide on projects?
-
I don’t know what to do for a project. Honestly have no idea how to even come up with a project nevertheless do it. What are your projects? How do you do it?
-
No need to stress with projects, until you see a horse that you just need to have :)
I only have two lines. The oldest one is my high performance line, where the only factor that counts is PT score.
The other line is a line where I just put everything that I like, and breed them all together, and see what I get. At this moment I love the new chocolate gene, so I am creating a nice chocolate stallion to replace my 17 year old buckskin/satin stallion, that will age out soon.
The most important is to have fun while playing, and there are so many ways to have fun! Some people love projects, and can't have enough of them, and others want their hobby to be free from projects. Find your way, and play it exactly the way you want, and do whatever makes you happy! :)Post edited by Herzeloyde at 2020-03-09 07:59:35 -
I usually stumble across a project horse ... an accident waiting to happen in a good way sort of thing. If I've collected the proper monetary amounts in real or HBs it get done ... I very rarely "seek out" the projects.
In my Barns I have a few lines running
My main thing is Appaloosa, but to make it a little challenging I breed only Appy to Appy. No Sb1,2, W 1, 2, 3, ectra ... just LP. Then when the Snowflake came out, that was introduced it my Appy lines. Right now working Snowflake, Nd1, Tiger Eye Appies. This goes for my Satin and non Satin Appies (they are separate satin from non satin) I have been doing this since I started playing.
Then the KIT genes ... Sb1,2, Wm, W3,W10, W8, Splash, Splash2 .... all looking for that elusive Kit Promoter. Again like the Appies; I have a Satin line and a Non Satin line.
Then there is the Restricted line, which is different from my new Fantasy line. Love Mushroom and Splash M ... noticed that my Splash M were aging out so to get a little more out of them I started working the mushroom in. That is the goal Splash M/Mushroom. Satins are not separate, they are mixed in this group.
Then, lastly, which sort of came by accident ... My Fantasy line. Kept separate from the others, because fantasy can only be entered in the Fantasy Leader boards, and that is huge group. (the fantasy leader board, with a lot of way older lines than mine) Here we have my two newest loves Chocolate and Spiders ... but I was lucky to get some NEX straws at Christmas so that's been thrown in there as well. Again Satin is not separate as with the KIT and Appies.
As it was mentioned before, you can go big or you can go small ... I tend to go small.
This guys is one of those "accidents". New Rank Special ... small amounts of GMTing,
BRIND1 Freedom Reigns LA
Changed a few things and then sent him out into the world LOL

For me, I don't have projects. I do have a little 30 horse pasture for 2nd gen KP, but I mix the resulting foals from that in with the other foals for 3rd gen and beyond. I don't keep certain colors, patterns, etc separate. For me, what matters is sire lines. Stallions from their sire lines can have any other genes as long as they have the designated gene that the starting foundation sire had. Like for example, I have a Watercolor sire line going - the stallions must have Watercolor, but can have any other bonuses. Other than that, I just mix my lines up and see what I get.

Depends on what kind of project. If there's a particular horse that I want to be a certain way then I class it as a project (I've only ever had maybe 5 of those in many years of playing :D )
Otherwise I'm all over breeding projects - originally I spent my first 4 or 5 years of playing working solely on a particular warmblood line (that I still work on though it's not my main focus anymore) with only 2 very small barns :)) before I figured out that a bit of judicious new creates breeding and show horses could help me get more barns to expand my project further... and then last year I could finally afford to buy Axiom Blue (I'd been admiring it from afar) so that became a new project... and then brindles, and chocolate palominos (followed by Sables because they're pretty) and Ice 16... and then Ice 3 & 4 and Ice1 and that was quickly followed by Pearl + Satin together (I LOVE that combo :x )... and a new foundation warmblood project separate from my original warmblood line...
And you can see right there how projects happen, and you don't have to just work on only 1 project at a time too :-))Post edited by KahlahJewellery at 2020-03-10 16:10:49Licensed for Ice3, Ice4, Ice16, Axiom Blue, Chinchilla, Thunderstruck, Mushroom, Wrong Warp, Plaid, Phantom: Bats, Phantom: Jelly Fish & Phantom: Diamond Sparkle
Also Breeding: Ice1, Nexus, Satin & Pearl
Over a decade of playing and still loving the game <3 -
When I started playing again, I first went for a performance line that I mixed with my old lines from straws and eggs I had hoarded for a decade or more. Then I picked a few colors that I like IRL and seeked a few herd helpers to boost that along. These were silver grullo, black based champagne, splash and appaloosa. As I am hitting 5th and 6th generations, some of those lines are getting mixed. Plus I have thrown in some fantasy lines with the phantom genes being added to the splashes and nexus into my silvers. Just whatever seemed fun, I went with it :D

I'm not sure I ever plan projects, they just happen! Usually after I see something and think Oooh, that's pretty!!! Lol!

If you need inspiration, think of horses you like in real life! I'm recently back after a long hiatus and am building a herd of "Clydesdales" -- bays/bay roans with splash and eventually who knows what else. Invested in the Coventry Fair and Big Floof packs so I can decorate them just the way I want to!
