Bump ; in case someone might want to trade some of today's brindle/ black's for colored foundations
-
What exactly do you want? because blue is not a color. Do you mean blue roan? Do you care about generation? body size? are appys okay?ID: 253959
Breeding snowflakes -
Most of the Genetics I know ( besides the line breeding we did in college ) are from dogs ; in which a " blue" is a recessive of the Black color ; what I would like to do is get a line of High Chrome Blue / Black that throws Blue ; to do that I know I can't use Palomino's, Chestnuts or Bays which with my luck is what most of my Exceptional producers are ; I ve been picking up Blue Roans and Appy's from the Auctions as well as Foundation Rescue and creating like crazy on Blackout and Brindle days ;as I said I have a TON of "colored" mares that are Exceptional Producers etcetc but would like more variety on the blacks so I can work through them and hone down to the ones that throw High Chrome Blues and Blacks ; Appy's are fine as are larger ponies , but I d prefer to not venture into Draft land. Thanks

I have this one.

And I went a bit over on the ExPro white spotted brindle today. You can pick a few of them if you want.

Are you interested in a second gen mare? She is too tall for my pony breeding criteria. And there is a chance that she carries the Gastra(however it's spelled) plume gene.

And I have this grulla that is only het dun but homozygous black that is also too tall for me.

@Painted ; again your stunning ponies ; I only have 3 pony mares in my herd ; they are all BlueMoon Mares and I don't have a pony stud ; one is 13.3 though if you 'd like one or more of them?

You’re welcome to look through my sale barn. I update it several times a day because when a horse sells, I have the money to make more. Almost all of my horses are exceptional producers, exceptional show horses, perfect, or exceptionally perfect.I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me! -
I can also focus on making ponies today if you would like. Awesome! I have 15,000 coming in from the auction tonight, so if you aren’t interested in what I currently have up for sale, I can make some more creates. No exceptionals, but I found a blue roan HH, so I made four mares from that and they all have decent PT scores. Three have minimal white and I papered the one with medium white. There is no gene equivalent to the blue you're thinking of in horses. There are several dilute genes (creme, pearl, champagne, silver) but none of them express quite the same way. I can give you a rundown on what the different dilutes that do exist do on black if you'd like, but none will look like thatSpiderweb Stables

@Taliesin ; I think I am seeing this ; Blues seem to be treated as a completely different color from Blacks ; instead of the recessive ; guess I will need to rethink the way to get what I want lol
@Saber ; she was promised to Nightphoenix sorry ><
@PaintedDesert ; thanks I grabbed them and will probably be taking you up on your offer when they get old enough :) -

I don’t have access to a sales buddy chat, so I just named them all for annismyrph. I don't need anything in return
And also, if you are interested in dog genetics, you may want to look into the newly released Chocolate allele: https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/41666/introducing-khansuudyn-suns-founder-of-the-chocolate-allelePost edited by Herzeloyde at 2020-03-28 04:21:45Thanked by 1annismyrph -

I will definitely check out the chocolate allele discussion

@annismyrph the recessive of black in horses is red. Horses have 2 main coat colors, red and black. Anything else is a modifier of these two.
This mare of mine has blue roan listed as her color. Which is a black based horse that carries the roan allele. Is this what you mean by blue?
EmbyoMare6
The genetic code on this mare if you look at the bottom of her page shows;

The capital E is dominant black or black pigment is turned "on". The lower e is recessive black which produces red pigment. A horse must have two lower e's to be a red or "chestnut".
The next spot marked "bay" is a little more involved. This mare has two lower a's which means no bay. This is the reason she is black. A bay is a red horse with black mane, tail, lower legs, nose, and ears. (Called points) The Capital A is the classic bay, like the first 2 horses you posted above. A wild bay is A+ like this mare;
Martial
See how the black on her legs is much less? And she barely has any black on her face. A brown horse carries the At allele. This allele is recessive or overwritten by the classic and wild bay alleles. So a horse must have either two At or one At and one a to be "Brown".
Hope this helps a bit? Any other questions?Post edited by Wingedeagle at 2020-03-28 14:29:40Thanked by 1annismyrph -
Just realized I didn't give an example of brown;
Celtic FrostThanked by 1annismyrph -
yes thanks ; in the GreatDane world "Blue" is recessive of Black just like Brindle is recessive of Fawn ; took me a bit and then I realized it didn't work the same in horses ; thank you tho :)
-
Horse genes that I would compare to the blue gene in dogs would be dun, creme, and maybe roan. A Smokey black (black with one creme), a grullo (black with at least one dun), or a Smokey grullo (one creme and at least one dun) could have a wide range of blue/grey/brown hues. Roan is black hairs mixed with white hairs; not really a dilute, but gives a blue color.
The cool thing is that all of these genes are dominant and you only need one copy of any of them to get color, where you’d need two copies of blue to get a blue dog.Thanked by 1annismyrph -
Smokey Black looks chocolate to me ; grullo looks gray ; lol am going to be doing a High Chrome Blue Roan / Black line ( or at least that's where I am headed )
thanks ! -
