Comparison Testing
-
Just a quick question about testing, if a foal papered up from their dam or sire are they automatically going to test superior? Or should I still test foals that paper up from their parents?
Thanks! -
They may not test superior, but will be slightly superior because of the paper level.Thanked by 1kgstable

If the parent is at the top of its paper level and the foal at the bottom of the next paper level they can test about as good as. I don't bother to test A/blue 2nd gens since it is possible to get a B/red that tests superior to an ex perf parent, so A/blue is always going to test superior unless the parent was boosted, but after 2nd gen, I generally do test even if the foal is up a paper level.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

@LakeOndowaFarm That's what I was wondering about, I get quite a few Blue/A 2G's from red/B foundations and was wondering if I should spend the money on testing or not. I've been going through my red/b 2G's and all my Blue/A 3G's to see how they tested, this is the first season I've REALLY used comparison testing

Quick breakdown of 2nd gens:
B x Red foundation parents
A/Blue- always "superior" unless foundations were boosted a little
B/Red- could be "worse", "as good as", or "superior."
B x Yellow OR C x Red parents
A/Blue- "superior" no matter which parent you test them against
B/Red- "as good as" or "superior" to a C or Yellow parent; "worse," "as good as," or "superior" to a B or Red parent.
C x Yellow parents
B/Red- "as good as" or "superior" to either parent
A/Blue- not actually sure if this is possible, but would definitely be "superior"
I never keep C or Yellow 2nd gens so I don't know how they would test.

@SherwoodStables Thank you! That's super helpful, I never keep C/Yellow lined horses either :) Will definitely keep this thread handy next time I test
