Tips On Saving Money?
-
How do you guys save up for a big purchase? I’m trying to aim for a 90 stall barn so I can keep more foals to raise as show horses, but I’m having trouble saving enough money for it. Any tips? Thanks!I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

Immediately transfer any extra funds to IVs. That's the only way I can stop myself from spending.Thanked by 1Nightphoenix

Thanks! I try to do that, but I also need money to buy more horses to sell to make more money, so it’s always so hard to decideI’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I've never had much luck on selling horses, I find it better to wait until my show horses hit 10 or 11 before looking at their show results / points. If they spelded and below a certain point I mass auction them to get the 2500 back plus freeing up space.

I understand that selling horses isn’t supposed to work, but I’ve found a little trick. I made over 100K from the auction last night. I can’t rely on my show herd until I have a much bigger barn, so I’m trying to save up for that.
I’ve made about that much for the past three auctions.Post edited by Nightphoenix at 2020-04-10 10:51:33I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. @nightphoenix - I'm curious about your auction trick...
-
@Ammit I could use some help for this please. How exactly does the Foundation Rescue supply work? If the barn is not overfilled when the next auction ends, will the Rescue collect more foundations? My trick depends on that. Be careful pinging Ammit, we don't want it to become A Thing because there's no way she could keep up. All horses get the 2500 basic bid in the auction, no matter what. I believe the foundation rescue ones are chosen out of those that don't get any other bids afterward, but I don't actually know how that worksSpiderweb Stables

Foundation Rescue picks up all foundations without other bids that have 100% training ability, 100% breeding ability and are perfect consistant (= Perfect Foundations). They buy them for 2500 hbs and sell them for 2750 hbs. It is an automatic account, so an overfilled account does not matter for them. :)
The lined horse rescue picks up lined horses that the games think is worth saving, because of their breeding value or their showing abiliy, or both.
Both Rescues only pick up horses that are 4 years or younger, and who does not have any living foalsPost edited by Herzeloyde at 2020-04-10 12:21:31Thanked by 1Taliesin -
Sorry about that. Basically what I do is use the search to find ten year olds in the foundation rescue. I use the advanced sort function to sort by all time points. I then buy any horses that have at least a 6000 lifetime payout, put them in the auction, and then show them while I wait for the auction to finish. I’m also trying a more long-term strategy where I repeat the process with nine year olds, but I keep them and show them until they turn ten, then auction them.
I only have two horses in auction right now and I’m already going to be getting 12K + on SundayI’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I've been using the Foundation Horse Rescue as a cheap source of pointed foundations for a while. Buy em, snip, tack em, stick 'em in a show barn. Then cull them using the same criteria as I cull everyone else (usually if/when they level out poorly).
If you're getting that much from auction 2-3x a week, you should have no problem saving up. You should have a goal in mind - I'm going to purchase 10 horses per auction cycle, for example, and set aside the funds to purchase them, and then convert everything else into IVs.
And keep an eye on your breedable stock to show stock ratio. I always keep too much intact, but one, intacts tempt you into breeding ALL THE THINGS, and two, intacts don't receive as much benefit from training to earn extra points during shows.
If you get foundations that are fancy, liver creates or certain rank specials for example, you can frequently sell them for a pretty penny if you are patient, and that can be another source of income. There will always be more pretty ponies for you to buy when you have extra funds. That part of how I raised money as a new account - I'd buy overlooked but then-in-demand foundations in the auction and then resell them in forum sales. It would sometimes take a week or two to find the right buyer (once it took three months!), but it was a fun side business for a while. I really had to separate the rank specials I liked versus the one the market liked.

Lined horse rescue have ID nr 9Thanked by 1Nightphoenix

The Foundation Rescue is ID 13... I forget what the lined rescue's ID is. I'm pretty sure the lined rescue does not have horses listed for public sale ala FR, but it put 5-10 up in auction every cycle. I've gotten some *nice* show ponies from there though.
Sorry - Didn't see Herzeloyde's post.Post edited by ChateauAlbere at 2020-04-10 13:47:27"Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving." - PTerry Pratchett

True, Lined horse rescue sell only through the auction, so if you want to buy a horse from them, you need to search horses by owner ID 9 that are for auction. It is a great source for High-PT show horses and Star/Gold papered mares. When horses with high papers was more rare than today, we used to bid like crazy on them. It was so fun and so exiting to see who the lucky people who ended up with the horses was, and how they performed later in lifeThanked by 1Nightphoenix

Saving is always hard, but everyone has the right idea. If you have the space and the patience, buying the 9YOs to show until they turn 10 (culling the ones now showing well and keeping the others for another season, and more points) is helpful too if you're strapped.
Ammit has a newletter as well, which gives you access to create a 1,000pt horse. I typically create mine as a yearling, which puts their lifetime earning around 54k. you can sell them for that or keep them :)Thanked by 1Nightphoenix -
