What do you like in a show horse?
-
I was just going through my show horses and I started thinking. How do you choose your show horses? What’s important to you? Points? PT? Lifetime payout? Do you like flashy or plain?
Show horses are such an important part of the game and it made me curious about what other people like!I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me! -
I'm starting to get rid of any of mine that are not still earning points, therefore the lifetime payout and what I would get keeping them would be about the same. I have a lot of old ones. I know I will see my show bonus plummet but I'm hoping the new yearlings will take over in the next few months
-
I'd like to see what everyone has to say on this, but at the moment I am using mares that didn't roll the colours I need but are 100% or more showing ability.
In the future I may choose to do something different but as a new player I am more interested in building a herd.HJ1: 266615

I consider flash to be a bonus, but they earn the same points as a plain ol' chestnut. I try to balance between pointed foal, High PT foals, and aged, high earning stock to bring along - that seems to always make sure I have points for daily bonus and winnings from showing. I honestly focus less on lifetime payout since it's going to change on a weekly basis while they're adding points and aging.
-
I look for Consistency and PT score, I usually don't keep show stock with anything under 10.00 PT score unless they come from sacred lines or are to be kept in-house only from other members.
Color comes as a bonus. I do the same as Chateau does with trying to balance out old high pointed stock, high PT foals and good showers (I check pretty regularly on my younger horses to make sure that they are placing well otherwise they are sold off for their lifetime payout or are usually just auctioned off)
I'm just over 12k per day right now and I have TONS of show horses, my next task is to find ones that are leveled off and not showing well and sending them to auction once they turn 10 to get some money for them -
I breed my own showhorses. I keep all the foals that fail SBA and have a PT score of 11 or higher. I have both plain and flashy show horses, and they show the same. Right now I'm working my way towards 150k per day. Of course, I have 3,460 showhorses right now. My oldest is 23 years old - a gelding that I retired from breeding some seasons ago.Thanked by 1StarsetRoyale

I never pick and choose between show horses I keep them all.
That being said I’ve been around long enough that they (the show horses) have bought and paid for enough barns to hold them all.
In a bid to try to reduce my overall horses though I’ve been auctioning off all my horses that are inconsistent or fail SBA just to clear stalls and reduce my show bonus (yes I’m actually trying to reduce how much money I get every night)
But when I had a side account that I was building I started by filling my second barn with the highest pointed horses I had and auctioning anything left in the primary barn. Then I would pull up a search page of the auction horses sorted by total points and bid 2,600 on any horses that didn’t already have another player bid (May want to limit the sort to 1-9 year olds now since 10+ start at their lifetime payout) starting at the top and working as far down the list as I could.
Since my secondary barn was small I stayed under the 20,000 point cap and in between auction days I would create horses with points. Then I would sort my barns so the highest pointed horses were in my secondary barn and auction the rest in my Primary and keep the circle rolling.
This made sure that I was getting the most profit from each stall I had filled. Using the least amount of stalls. Once I saved up I bought the biggest barn I could and continued filling it with the highest pointed horses.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
The saddest thing on 'Blackout' HH day, when you are a new member and breeding for Black based horses is when you see a bunch of non-Perfect/Exceptional Mares pass SBA... It was absolutely heartbreaking to spay them all when I could have used them for breeding - but I know later down the line this choice will be a positive.HJ1: 266615

As long as they pass SBA I would still breed them.
I am a Grullo breeder and there are no exceptional or perfect herd helpers guaranteed to be Grullo. Rather than create thousands of horses I use the regular create grullo herd helpers. Through careful testing and culling I have no problem improving my lines and struggle to find the same quality higher generation grullo horses outside my barns.
It can be done it just may take a little longerBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
@bandit1119 the problem was I had to cull some of the creates to make a show herd, I had hoped the game would make it easier by forcing a lot of them to be spayed but I think only 1 actually failed so I had to hand-select :)HJ1: 266615

the creates would have been better to keep ; those higher pointed horses over time give you more HB's
-
@FlameKitteh space issues are understandable. Since you said you were new I just wanted to say that it was perfectly possible not to need your breeders to be exceptional or perfect to have a good quality herd as some new people may think that they need to start with the higher quality horses to get quality horsesBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes

My show herd is all my brood horses that I got from the Foundation Rescue, snipeds that have been gifted to me, and foals that I accidentally get attached to.
-
Eh, I started with C and Yellow papered foundations and now I get a number of Stars/Golds at 4th gen every season, and far more Stars/Golds at 5th gen. It's all about being patient with your lines, keeping only breeding stock that test superior to their parents, and maintaining quality criteria for every generation. For example,
3rd gen is the first hard check - all breeding stallions must be papered A, even if the foundation sires are C. All broodmares must be papered Blue. And all must be superior to their parents, and the 2nd gen horses must be superior to their foundation parents, and they must have an AFPT of 11 to keep intact.
5th gen stallions must paper Star, and mares must paper Gold, have a superior to sire/dam pedigree, and have an AFPT of 12.
But then again, it took time until my horses were of sufficient quality that I could afford to be that picky with criteria.
I used to have to keep 3rd gen red mares that passed SBA until I started getting a lot of blues that I could afford to keep only blues and get rid of all the red mares, and still have enough future broodmares for my 4th gen pastures.
Same thing happened with 3rd gen B stallions that were superior to their sires until I started getting As regularly so I could scrap the Bs.
Same thing happened with my 5th gens too - used to be blues that passed SBA, now they are gold. Used to be As superior to their sires, now they are Star.Thanked by 1ChateauAlbere
