Nexus Mare Auction

I've never done an auction like this before so here goes nothing. The auction will run until Friday at 11:59 pm and she will be put up for sale at that time. I don't have the buddy sale option so the winner has to be sure to grab her.

She's very pretty and I'd love to bid on her, but because her damline is probably higher quality than her sireline may I ask whether she's been through Strict Mare Advice?Bluegrass #143376 * Specializing in Iced Axiom (ExPro Cobs) and Iced Phantoms (PF Riding Ponies)

@Hayes - the problem is her sire line. "As good as" is actually "about as good as" which has a very different meaning. Her sire could actually be worse than his sire, which means her quality could be lower than her parents. Or her grandparents.
There are basically three ways people play the game - they either breed for quality, breed for color, or breed for both. People that breed for quality or both aren't usually happy with "about as good as" sires, they want to see improvement with every generation, particularly in this price range. It's one thing to take a gamble on a 4k horse, but at 75k...that's a pretty big gamble. Belasko has been fairly vocal in the past about breeding for color, so seeing a horse coming out of her lines could be enough for people who emphasize quality to lose interest.
I don't mean to be insulting your horses, I just wanted you to understand how people are evaluating this one in particular.Post edited by Gael4ce at 2016-03-30 15:24:25 -
@Blue Jewels can I do strict mare advice as a free account?
And @Gael4ce, thanks for explaining. I still find all of these breeding regulations hard to follow and really confusing. Personally, I don't think I will be able to keep up with the a lot of it because I just don't have the money to invest in making my lines absolutely perfect. I wish I could but at this present time I can't. If you have any advice for me about how to go about improving lines without having to spend a lot I would absolutely love for you to give it to me. I'm really new to this still and haven't really put much thought into it. And I really do appreciate it when people tell me their honest opinions. I don't think your response was insulting at all. :)Post edited by HayesStable at 2016-03-30 15:58:21Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

As a free account, no. I don't remember whether a basic upgrade can, or if it's kept for premium upgrades?
If you are looking to breed for quality (and you don't have to - if you want to breed for color instead, absolutely feel free to!) all you need to do is keep only the best and spay/geld a LOT. :) Start from where ever you want, it is very satisfying to start from your own foundations, but you can also purchase 2nd, 3rd, 4th, whatever generations and build from there. As long as each generation you breed is better than the last, you're breeding for quality.
Most of all - breed for what *you* want - there is very little money in breeding for what you might sell. The market is fickle, the more you sell the cheaper those gene/bloodlines are perceived as, and there are always newer LE genes that'll drop the price of what you have.Bluegrass #143376 * Specializing in Iced Axiom (ExPro Cobs) and Iced Phantoms (PF Riding Ponies)

Thanks @Blue Jewels! I appreciate the advice and in the next few days I think I am going to start reorganizing my barns and rethinking my breeding program :)Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

It's not a matter of "regulations". If you are breeding for your own stable, breed whatever you want.
The catch is when you're breeding with plans of selling the horses, that's when you have to figure out what everyone else's standards are. Or at least, how to breed horses that appeal to as many people as possible since you're never going to please everyone.
And...there's a reason I rarely - like, never - sell stock I've bred. ;)
I play my game for myself. I keep most of my "unwanted" youngsters as show stock to fund the breeding/creating, so I have a self-sufficient operation going. I don't *need* my horses to appeal to anyone else, so I don't care if they do or not.
I find it more fun that way. Other people don't. Some do breed just to sell - that's what they find to be fun.
The easiest way to improve your own lines is to work "slow and steady" and just make every generation a bit better than the last.Thanked by 1HayesStable -
