Every year, for about a decade now, our amazing community has hosted a Christmas gift exchange. This was a labor of love completely organized and sorted by hand. The members who put it on have changed over the years but they have never missed a year, and their actions have added significantly to our community. Each year the event gets bigger and with hundreds of entries this year I knew it was time to step in and officially support the event

In preparation for Christmas time, I am creating a built-in gift exchange system, and we are going to get all the kinks out of the system this summer. It will work just like the normal exchange but instead of messaging your entry to someone, you will fill it out on the website.

There are three participation levels: 25,000 hbs, 250,000 hbs and 2.5 million hbs. Normally everyone will start at the 25k level and unlock high levels as they participate in more exchanges. For this run, you can enter any/all levels you qualify for based on your barn size.

Entries close at the end of the month. So if you would like to participate, please sign up. The link is in the sidebar.

@annismyrph that is the place for your wishlist (and dislike list). Just like last years secret santa anything can be on your wishlist. It can be anything from genes or colors you breed for or want to breed for, certain sized ponies, certain generations you need, to straws/eggs/embryos, to show horses, to horses from specific HHs that you like, to barns/pastures/upgrades. Basically anything can be on your wishlist! However, I would not expect to get a barn in the 25,000 category, as that is much more. But you can always put it on your wishlist! It is a wishlist, not a 'guaranteed-to-get'-list.

I have put the things I breed for in my list, as well as my favourite HHs. I also put in my dislikes: non sty horses and horses lower than a certain height.

I've also stated that I do have a basic upgrade, so the one shopping for you know that you can use straws and embryo's but cannot do eggs.

Question, what sorts of things would be ideal for level 3? I'm unemployed irl and cannot afford to GMT horses or purchase barns, so I'm not sure if I should still enter that level?

@lethalximpulse You should expect to send gifts worth at least 2.5 million. It can be anything. Spending real-life money is never ever required.

It isn't something that has ever been an issue before. :) Certainly for level 2 any barn qualified for that should have the daily income to support it pretty easily but it is a very kind offer.

Probably a super dumb question, but I've not done a gift exchange before. How do you send gifts to another person anonymously? For that matter, how do you send things in general to other players? I've sold horses via buddy but have not sent anything otherwise, so... I think I need a Gift exchange for Dummies or something...

Well, there are a number of ways to do it. You could pay another player to gift a horse to the person you've been assigned to give gifts to. You can use the link at the bottom of the Random Gene Sale list to put a special gene on a horse that person owns, without revealing that you've done it until the time comes. You can purchase straws or eggs (if you and your giftee have the upgrades to use them) and have them sent directly from the owner of the horse in question to the intended recipient. Keep a private list of everything you've given by this sort of sneaky process, so that when the time comes to reveal what you've given comes, you can send the whole list. If you've put a special gene on a horse, for instance, the owner might not even notice that it had been done if their stable is large enough that they don't look at every horse every day or every week. :D

You should next expect to send everything anonymously. Many things can't be sent that way.

I'm a little stuck, I've been matched with someone that only asked for genes that are GMT/RGS and it's a rank 1 match. :((

@DarkFrost They don't all have to be intact foundation horses - you can get later gen horses bred by others, straws/eggs if available, or show ponies with those genes, too!

@DarkFrost You can give altered horses with those genes without issue no matter what the licenses they have. If they have the licenses ask around to see if anyone has any straws/eggs they can sell to help out with gifting. You definitely don't need to spend real money.

Im new to this and excited! Do i stockpile until its ready or how do the items get gifted? How do you know the hb amount? (Say if i got a rgs for my matched person and throw it on a random horse for them?)

As a first-time gift exchanger, I also have a few questions as to how people usually go about it. Do you try to find the absolutely ideal horse or eggs/straws that might take up a big chunk of your budget or go for more of a combination of gifts? Ever worth trying to breed a foal yourself? Obviously will depend somewhat on the wish list, but some advice on what to prioritize would be super helpful so I can narrow down my ideas!

@annismyrph I believe last post Ammit made said it's a minimum value so don't expect to receive anything more but there's no upper limit to what you can offer.

I also believe we have two weeks to collect the gifts before gifting starts. :)

you could send them enough HB to buy the IV's or you can pay "cash" for it ; Ammit has been running some super sales I would grab it then, if the cash route is the way you choose to go

@CrimsonHill, on the buy a barn page change the ID # to the stable you're buying for, then add that barn to your cart. When you purchase it, it will automatically appear in the stable that matches that number.

According to the FB group it looks like Ammit is working on a way to send horses anonymously, or at least easier than the current way. I don't think there'll be a way to send eggs/straws etc anonymously.

I bought a barn for my giftee today so I think that'll be... anonymous... probably.

Oops, too late. I clicked on buy without trying to find where to put their id, and it didn't have the option to put in their number, it just sent the silly thing to me.

@OopsDotCom when you are looking at the upgrades menu for barns each size has a box next to it which you can type ID into. Ammit may be willing to move the barn for you.
