Sharing the announcement of a new member program discussed on the Facebook page and spearheaded by Confluence Farms on HaJ 2:

Confluence Farms April 23
A bunch of us had a coversation on the Facebook page about expediting donations for new members, or Secret Santa or anyone who could use some help. I've set up a tattoo with the name 'Available to Adopt' so that it is searchable. I plan to put information in the horses notes about that horse and where they might fit into a show barn (ex; This horse is a rank special Great Show Horses. That means they train and show to the maximum ability of their generation (foundation). S/he won't make you huge amounts of money, but s/he should bring in a steady flow and much needed points.)

I propose that anyone who wants to give horses to new folks, or anyone, for that matter, make a tattoo and name it "Available to Adopt". The shape/size/placement of the tattoo really won't matter, you can make it a lip tattoo if you want, but if all the barns who want to make donations use the same wording people will be able to search and select from a nice pool of show horses.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

As someone who has shared high point show horses with new and not-so-new players on a number of occasions, I'm thoroughly in favor of it, and have brought a copy of the announcement here as requested in the original thread there.

What a great idea. I have been thinking recently about offering new players some show horses to help them get going but was put off by the need to regularly check if anyone had replied to the offer etc. If we had an agreed wording for a tattoo it would be easy to put horses up as and when I felt I had some to offer. I'm all for it once the tattoo name is agreed upon and any concerns have been aired. :)

The suggested tattoo (which doesn't have to have an image with it) is Available to Adopt. You can purchase a tattoo slot, name it "Available to Adopt" and locate it on the lip, where we wouldn't see it, anyway. If everyone uses the same name, then new players can search for what's available, then contact the owner to discuss getting a horse.

I can house them, if you don't have room to keep them yourself and want to send them to me. I plan to get a special barn to hold them in, and can afford the IV's for a 120 stall barn, which should be large enough, I hope.

Any decent horse could be offered; it doesn't necessarily have to specifically be a show horse, it could be an intact foundation (or whatever generation) with an interesting color or pattern that you might not be particularly interested in breeding for yourself. The plan is to keep the price of these horses low enough so that new players can afford them, and that they would be given to adopters with the understanding that they are to used for breeding or showing and NOT immediately yummed or auctioned to get extra game money.

I have just purchased the "Adoption Herd" barn and it will be available to players who would like me to hold horses they are putting up for adoption. There will be room for 120.

Here is my first entry into the adoption herd at my stable. This will give you an idea of how to explain the value of the horse you are offering for adoption so new players will understand it.

Never mind. I found the listed on your barn page. I didn't realize that horses for sale on the buddy list would be found there. I keep on learning new about this game all the time. No wonder it's so fascinating. *G*

As soon as I can I'll start looking for some I can tattoo for adoption. I'll have mostly foundations and some show horses with points.

Edit: Quick question. Will the tattoo have to be removed before giving it to the new player? So it doesn't show in the search any more.

I have these lovely fillies I'd like to donate. I don't have enough room to hold them myself though :(. Let me know if you can take them and we can arrange a time since I don't have buddy. I've already edited their notes, just haven't put on a tattoo.
