Adding mushroom to my liver line
-
I really like the Mushroom gene, and I was literally just wondering if it would be on to RGS soon, but I haven't played with genetics yet on here due to funds. I was thinking about adding mushroom to one of my liver horses, but I'm not 100% sure what the best move is, if I'm putting it on a breeding horse. Should it go on a stallion? And what will the finished product on a liver chestnut horse look like?
I have this filly I thought about putting it on, but I'm thinking adding it to a stallion might be a better idea since they can produce more than one foal per year.

I also have this boy, but I'm just not positive how mushroom works over liver and I'm going back and forth like crazy.Formerly OscarWildin

Here's a double DP liver with mushroom.
MU2B 9528307
Here is the search I did. I put 'liver' in the color name and on the second tab I switch Mu to 'must not have' so the search would only give me horses with the hom recessive mumu, ie mushrooms. If you remove my ID number from the owner ID field you'll get all the mumu livers on the server (that are tested and therefore searchable, anyway).
As for what horse to put it on--sorry to break it to ya, buddy, but you can't put it on either of those horses. Lined horses can only inherit genes from their parents, which means you can only add a gene on if a parent has it and they 'missed' it, and you can't add anything from the RGS to a lined horse. Only foundations, because their parents could hypothetically be anything! So you'll need a foundation.
Now, mare or stallion--as a rule, if you can only do one, the more efficient answer is a stallion. That way you can get a bunch of hets, and either buy eggs or a hom colt or something, cross him with all your het mares, and get hom gen threes. I like to do one of each when I'm after recessive genes like that, but I also have a GMT addiction and it's a problem, lol.Spiderweb Stables

Oh man, that's a bummer. So likely I would have to GMT a foundation to get hom DP and then put mushroom on top of that?
That's great to know though. Thank you for the advice!Formerly OscarWildin

Or you could find a cherry drop or liberation or something and GMT on sooty and change the E's to e. It'd maybe be cheaper.
You're welcome!Post edited by Taliesin at 2020-06-20 11:01:05Spiderweb Stables

z RS Freaky Friday hom DP - I'd maybe talk to the owner of this one about price, since he's been up on the sales board for a while, and looking at what they paid for him themselfSpiderweb Stables

I went ahead and bought this boy because I had a sudden influx of hb when I bought someone else's copy of mushroom, and I can't wait to see what kinds of foals I get by him next breeding season.
He stays his color because of the HH, right?

He looks amazing! I love him so much! Thank you for all your help! Now I'll just need to add one more f to get his mane to really pop, and he should be perfect.Post edited by WitchwaterAcres at 2020-06-20 17:30:28Formerly OscarWildin

He does look great! I'd maybe take him down off the stud board until you're done, though. You can't keep GMTing him once he has foalsSpiderweb Stables

I noticed that a second ago and remembered. I'll get that added before next breeding season then.Formerly OscarWildin
