Whew...It's been a Summer!
-
We all know the virus has caused a lot of chaos in everyone lives and I hope everyone is doing well! My summer was completely turned around and I'm felling the stress of it all now!
In May my trip to the Philippines was cancelled for obvious reasons!
I thought I was fired from my job
I started working somewhere else
Quit there because the atmosphere was horrible
Started working for my old job again (which is wonderful)
Have been taking a very unorganized and VERY confusing online class for school
Helped my roommate move in
Am looking for a new apartment
AND looking for a new car
and finally Have recently started taking CBD oil to help anxiety (it's been working for far!)
It's been very stressful and very eventful, I'm thankful for the community here and I loved taking part in the Gift exchange, it definitely helped take my mind off of things. I'm still in a bit of a rut, but now that I'm focusing on some GMT projects and trying to save money for that, it's been a good distraction!
How's everyone's summer been going? -
Mine was insane as well
My Disability got delayed because the Federal Government closed and quit reviewing applications
My Husband worked from home ( and OMG what a Distraction THAT is )
I am a Foster Mom to bottle fed kittens and currently have TWELVE of them in my house ; all of the adoption events have been delayed due to the Corononense
My Aunt is finally starting to close out my grandparents estate and is now cracking the whip to get everything out of the house ( and until my Disability checks start coming we don't have the money for a rental truck )
if she had done it a year ago when I had planned time off for it ; it would have been MUCH easier all around.
if it wasn't for these pixel ponies and some great people I have met here I think I would have gone 'round the bend lol
Gift Exchange and being a Flamingo was a HUGE stress relief ( retail therapy works even if its just pixel money and items ) and gifting always makes me feel good

Lockdown in the UK started in March and straight away hubby and I had to cancel all planned babysitting for our daughters' children. My husband got a cough straight away (but no other symptoms luckily) but he had to self-isolate for 7 days and I had to stay indoors for 14 days (no symptoms luckily). I got really fed up with jigsaws but this game was great! I haven't been able to get my hair cut so have been spending the saved money on buying pretty genes for my horses. :) Both my husband and I are retired so we've been OK, the hardest thing was not being able to see our daughters and granddaughters for a few months.
Now that lockdown is easing we have been able to see family again and I have an appointment to get my hair cut in just over a week. :D
I have also been chatting on the phone with a friend who is nearly 90 and doesn't use any kind of modern technology, in fact we have been corresponding by letter for several years. She loves our chats (usually over an hour long) and she is still sharp as a tack. She never married and has no family so I'm glad I decided to call her as it turns out she finds letter writing harder because she has arthritis in her hands.
There is no doubt that life is very different but, like other people, I have found that this game has been a real help to me. -
I work in the service industry, and was lucky enough that my workplace closed for several months. We're working on opening up again (unless the boosted unemployment comes through again in the next couple days), and I'm not excited about going back to work in a COVID world, but at least the owner of my cafe is safety-conscious, and our GM is a really sane, rational person.
I've been spending a lot of time at the barn with my real-life horse, and all this time off has really given me a chance to consider my career going forward, and I honestly haven't had much of a chance to be bored. I built a gaming computer, which I haven't had a chance to use yet, but I'm so excited. I did a ton of yoga for the first month, and then got distracted.
I shaved my head because my hair was getting out of control, so that was a first and super freeing. I really want to go back to my stylist, but cases have picked up in my state again, so I'll probably hold off for a little while again.Formerly OscarWildin

Mine starts just before Covid (sorry)
I quit my (awful) job at the end of February, ahead of a move from South Coast to Yorkshire.
Move on 6th March, all goes well - although we accidently lost our winter duvet at our old place as we couldn't fit it in my Corsa (we moved our whole lives and cat in my car)
Signed up for UC because no-one was hiring due to Covid scare, UK went into lockdown 16th March.
In March was paid holiday pay from the previous job - which meant no UC payment for the whole month!!!!..... They messed up as I had left the previous month and reminded them to make sure it was all paid up. This meant I lost the entire holiday payment (as I then was forced to use that for bills - a whole year of holiday days not taken!) and was down an extra £800 from the UC - around £2,000
Still couldn't find job during April, saw Covid guidelines and asked previous employer to rehire and furlough me as per the guidelines - was told to 'go away' even after raising complaints over the way I was supported (or not) during my employment in relation to the team I managed.
April, we discovered a roof leak on third floor of new property and basement mould which we raised with. the agents.
May, found a new job! Now work remotely as a HR & Culture Consultant and I'm so damn happy :)
June, Landlord issued us warning to leave property by end of 6 months so he could sell up due to the costs of repairs needed on house - and a long argument we had trying to claim fees from them as we were promised a long-term let! (to cover our costs to move again; insurance fees, moving van, etc.)
I also started looking for a horse as I now earned a lot more than in my previous roles (and back in my area of expertise). Found one and paid for her, but couldn't get her delivered!
July, she finally arrived and she's gorgeous!
For those of you not on FB, here she is: https://ibb.co/YBVqxTk (publically hosted link, no expiry)

My summer has been far less crazy compared to the ones recounted here.
I do have a pending disability review, but of course that was put on hold. I did get a letter in March stating that I was not cooperating... despite the fact I had mailed in paperwork twice plus sent the proof of my disability as requested. So I don't know what the issue was, and I can't get it straightened out until the offices reopen.
Then my mom passed away on June 22nd at home rather unexpectedly. I had seen her a few days prior and she was "normal" at that time. She lived in a house two doors down from me. We lived in the same trailer park so she was just a short walk away, really. So there was no warning signs or anything of that sort that she was gonna pass.
I mean, I'm glad that she's now at peace, she had a lot of medical issues so now she's free of all that. I'll still miss her, though. Ellie's too young to play Yahtzee and Skip Bo with. Mom was my playing partner for those games, so I'm going to have to wait until Ellie is old enough to teach how to play those games.
What sucks is that her cause of death is still pending. Since she passed at home without someone licensed attending her, the coroner had to do an autopsy to determine what her cause of death was. They told me that there's a backlog at the lab they use. I've put in a request for a copy of the medical report because I am curious.
My boyfriend got furloughed from work, but they recalled him at the end of last month, I think. However, his work schedule got changed because his regular building is still closed. So instead of working Sat and Sun from 7 to 5, he now works Mon to Fri 5 pm to 9 pm. His work has only recalled a select few employees, they recalled the really good ones since they have a limited number of slots available. The rest of the base is still closed for cleaning service.

Mine started in February when I got really sick, I don’t know what I had but it was bad. Three weeks later I got sick again with pretty much the same thing, both those sicknesses whipped me out for a week each time and took another week and a half to get back to normal.
Then the end of May we had family come visit for two weeks, which was good but stressful. They left june 8th. I was excited because I’d have energy and time to work with my mare, and a gelding I was training.
That afternoon my mom had to be rushed by ambulance to the ER. We didn’t know what was wrong but it was bad. The CT scans came back clean. The Dr. said it was a bad case of vertigo and discharged her. He also said they couldn’t take an MRI without our family Dr. calling it in. About that time a new Dr. took over the ER. Within 10 minutes they let my dad into the back with my mom. Had ordered an MRI, and were admitting her for the night. They weren’t able to do an MRI that night due to the MRI tech not being in.
The next day they took the MRI and said she’d had a vertebral artery tear that caused a completely artery blocking to the cerebellum, and caused several strokes in that part of her brain. There was damage to all three lobes in the cerebellum. She’s 40. The family (her parents) that had left the day before came back to help.
She started gaining motor functions at a miraculous rate and was able to go to a rehab facility within a week of the stroke. The brain specialist was amazed at the amount of recovery she’d had, since the damage done was catastrophic. But he warned with the amount of damage done to her brain if she had a second stroke she would die.
She came home a week later and we started trying to get back to normal or at least the new normal. Her parents left the 21st of June, and we all were relieved, because while it was great to have the extra help it was also an extra stress. I learned after they left my dad’s parents would be coming up the first week of July. So we had a week to try and decompress.
They came and it was great to have them around, but it was definitely an added stress. They were leaving the morning of the 5th of July. My mom went into the hospital early that morning with symptoms of another stroke. That was terrifying. She said she lost about 50% of what she’d gained over the past few weeks from her first stroke. A cerebellum stroke accounts for only 3% of strokes that happen is the US, and are often miss diagnosed because they don’t have the same symptoms as a typical stroke.
Anyway she started doing better, but it’s still rough on all of us.
On July 9th the owner of the gelding I’ve been working with for the past two years gave him to me, which was a complete shock. Now I get to figure out what to do with another horse. So I’ve been working with him, trying to get him to a more useful spot.
At least with all of this going on I haven’t had to worry about my job or $$, so that’s made things easier.
Sorry for the long post, I’ve needed to spill my crazy summer for awhile.Post edited by Silverstar at 2020-08-02 17:08:33 -
Holy WOW ! My prayers go out to your Family @Silverstar ; I cant even imagine
-
@annismyrph. Thank you we’re definitely giving all the credit to God. They took an MRI after the second stroke and learned that there was no returned blood-flow to the Cerebellum, (which the specialist said had to have happened for her recovery) and the artery that was blocked, is still blocked and is now dead. Everywhere that artery delivered blood to is either dead or dying. However my mom doesn’t show any of the symptoms found in somebody who’s brain is dead or dying. So it’s a miracle, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still stressed out about it.
-
@silverstar I had a very similar start to the year. First weekend in January I got really sick. Wasn’t sure what I had but have never been that sick before. I ended up going to my moms house with my dog so she could look after the dog and make sure I ate. I just felt exhausted and so cold with a dry cough that was worse later in the day. Took a few days before I was strong enough to get up and walk around without being exhausted and another week and a half or so until I felt back to normal ish.
3 weeks later from the start I was down with the same symptoms (slightly better thank god) I ended up going to the doctor because I’d been coughing so badly and it was hard to breathe he said it wasn’t whatever flu was going around but the only thing he could do was give me a steroid spray to try and soothe my throat or something. I didn’t take him up on the offer since of course my symptoms had lessened.
Another 3 weeks later (mid February) it came back again. But the symptoms were much less strong than the last time and I was able to keep going about life.
Whatever it is took out most of our staff. Only 2 people didn’t get sick.
A month later Covid closed down everything.
I work in the parks and Rec department of the town I live in so in the winter we are mostly in the Arena and the summer we migrate to the parks. Normally we have one pad of ice year round so we still rotate through the arena.
We had planned on doing a quick turn around and take out the ice in the rink that stays year round and do some repairs and put it back in the first week of April. Half our staff stayed in the arena to take it out the first week everything closed since that gave us an extra 2 weeks to make the repairs and see if there was any other issues and also started deep cleaning and disinfecting the building. The other half of the staff went to the parks and started to clean the parks building and a few other town owned buildings. We also started cleaning and disinfecting any benches and crosswalk buttons in town.
The end of March they split our staff into teams and started a 2 week rotation so only half of us were working at a time and the other half was being paid to stay home and not get sick. I ended up getting switched to the other team after the first rotation through as one of them had attended a funeral and the town wanted him to self isolate for 2 weeks.
Every week more things have been added to our disinfection route through the town which now includes benches, disk golf goals and touch points on the basketball and tennis courts, 6 playground equipment sites, skate park.
In addition to the grass cutting in the 11 parks and arena, gardens needing to be weeded in at least half the parks with most having 2+ gardens, weed whacking the edges and around trees after the grass cutting, 11 planter boxes and 4 tree bags to water and any other miscellaneous projects requiring our attention (like removing weeds from the sidewalks downtown)
The crosswalk buttons were discontinued when citizens complained we were spraying some mysterious liquid on them (they could have just asked the person spraying what it was but apparently they collected a sample of the disinfectant and sent it to be tested) and someone took a picture of another staff person disinfecting the buttons and posted it on a FB page for the town and area saying she was disgusted in that staff persons idea of “cleaning” the buttons and that they needed to learn a thing or two. We all thought she (the poster) needed to learn a few things about the difference between cleaning (Washing/scrubbing) and disinfecting (letting the disinfectant sit and do its thing for 5+ minutes for best results)
It’s been an interesting experience to live through these times. Thankfully most people we deal with have been understanding that rules have been but in place but then we also have those that feel all we have been doing is sitting on our butts ignoring things because we’re too lazy to work.
We entered phase 3 the other week and someone thought we weren’t opening the playgrounds fast enough (we were phasing them in one a day so we could take the fencing down and deal with the weeds and thistles that like to grow in the mulch under the swings and equipment) and still finish all the other jobs we need to do that day and they went through several parks and took the fencing down for us one night.
I’m currently using some vacation time that I now have tons of since all my horse shows were canceled by camping in the woods a few hours north. I chose a site away from people and my mom keeps texting me that numbers are on the rise in my town. It had gone from 9 to 34 between Monday and Friday. 0 the week before.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
I would just like to say thank you to ALL key workers in whatever settings (not just the obvious healthcare sectors) and wherever you are in the world. I have made a point of thanking people (I usually do anyway) wherever they have continued to work for our benefit. I also smile, but now we have to wear masks it is maybe less obvious - so here's a virtual one! :)Thanked by 1kgstable
