Can't add missed copy of Sabino 1 from sire to foal
-
I am trying to do some GMT work on my Mr. Clean Slate colt and wanted to add the Sabino 1 that he missed from his daddy. However, whenever i click the sire side of the kit gene to edit it, the only option it gives me to change it to is White 20. Why is the Sabino not coming up as an option when the sire clearly has it? :/ I have the token for it so that's not it.
Here is the colt:

See, I'm confused how you got KP and gp onto the same foal. I thought brindles were only supposed to pass along from one strand or other other. I couldn't add gp to mine, and I assumed it was because mine inherited the KP strand. But you both got both!
Also, that wouldn't matter for the sabino because the sabino is on both strands. Are you sure you are selecting the sire's contributed allele (comes first in the pair)? EDIT: D'oh, I see that you say you are selecting sire side. I wonder if this is worth moving to the bug section.

At the moment only the primary DNA strand can be edited too.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I’m still not understanding. :(
Ordinarily, we would be able to edit the Sabino, present on both of side’s DNA strands, onto a foal who missed it. I was able to successfully do that with the missing DP but not the Sabino. Why is that the case?
Sorry if I’m being dense. I’ve been working on a lot of real life things lately and my head hurts.Post edited by paradoxphoenix at 2020-09-04 08:26:56Thanked by 1HayesStable -

I think I get the Sabino question for the foal bred by @hayesstable - because their foal is - for sabino and not W20, we know their foal inherited the KIT genes from Mr. Clean Slate's secondary strand, not his first strand. Because it's the secondary strand, it can't be modified. But hayes *could* add on KP because the KP is on the primary strand. Same with @blucrystals foal - the KP is from the primary strand and could have been added on. My foal has TE, but it's from her dam's genes, not Mr. Clean Slate's. I wouldn't have been able to add in Mr. Clean Slate's TE2, because that's on his secondary strand. Since we know my girl inherited the primary strand sabino (since she had the KP and the DP), I was able to change the W20 to Sabino, but I wouldn't have been able to change it to -.
So If my girl had inherited the gulastra plume strand, I could have edited KP on to her, but since she inherited the KP, I can't add the GP on to her, since the GP is on the secondary strand? Shucks, I totally would have spayed her and held out for a different intact."Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving." - PTerry Pratchett

How fascinating the chimeric inheritance is! And how clever of Ammit to build those restraints into the game!
It is, understandably, rather frustrating to the player, but since our "boast" is that for the most part, its color genetics follow those discovered in reality, it is also, at least to the onlooker, very interesting. :DThanked by 1HayesStable -
I still have exactly zero understanding because Mr Clean Slate has Sabino on both strands. Both his colour names and both his DNA sets have Sabino.
I’m so lost. Someone please give me a map @-)
Halp
I have an option to change it to w20. Why do I have that but no Sabino? It’s fine, I still like my foal, I just want to understand.Post edited by paradoxphoenix at 2020-09-04 09:37:52Thanked by 1HayesStable -
Okay so I was struggling to understand this too because like you said Sabino is on both strands, but it just finally clicked (I think...)
Only genes inherited from the Primary Strand can be edited (e.g. KP and DP). On Mr. Clean Slates primary strand he has w20/Sabino, on his secondary strand he only has Sabino. So if your foal got nothing for kit on the sire's side, it means they must have inherited the kit genes from the secondary strand therefore can not be modified.
As far as being able to add w20 @paradoxphoenix, is that maybe coming from the dams side?
Again, just my best guess based on the comments on this thread. Thoughts anyone?

That is correct. I will need to figure out a way to deal with it in time but I don't have an answer just yet.
The foal has -. He needs to have either w20 or Sabino to be able to swap to the other one. He has neither so can't match to his sire's genes in order to even made the swap.Post edited by Ammit at 2020-09-04 10:10:31Need to contact me? Read this first.

This is my foal if anyone is interested.
xPx2 Broke the Slate
Edit: I just checked again to verify. I can change - to w20 on the sire side, but the option for Sabino is not there.
Shouldn’t have anything to do with the dam’s side because my goal already has w20 from her dam on that side of her dna.Post edited by paradoxphoenix at 2020-09-04 10:33:45Thanked by 1HayesStable -
Why does mine show the option to change it to W20? Is the first side of each, the italicized section, the inherited primary strand?

@bluchrystals because the foal inherited strand 2 from the stud (strand with gp). So you cannot edit that gene marker to take the SB1, your foal inherited the - from that gene.Post edited by DarkFrost at 2020-09-04 12:45:26HJ1: 266615

Except my filly has DP, KP and gp. Which means as far as GMTing her the strands mixed on everything except the Sabino.Post edited by bluchrystals at 2020-09-04 12:45:58Thanked by 1HayesStable

No @bluchrystals, your filly has gp as she inherited the genes from strand 2.
You were able to add the DP and the KP from strand 1 of the sires DNA. :) But this doesn't apply to the Kit gene.Post edited by DarkFrost at 2020-09-04 12:48:09HJ1: 266615

w20 is on strand one, but both blu and I have an option to edit it.
If I had the extra GMTs, I’d see if I could add the w20 then switch the w20 to Sabino. For science, you know. :p But I really don’t want to end up Stuck with the w20 or wasting the GMTs when I have other projects I want to do.
(Those two GMTs would go a long way towards putting Sabino on a foundy :p)
If it’s a glitch, we have plenty time to add it before they’re breedable. So there’s that at least. When mine turns three, I’m going to decide if she stays a she or if she’s going to be a he.Post edited by paradoxphoenix at 2020-09-04 19:03:49Thanked by 1HayesStable -
2GC Centennial Cinnamon
At first I thought mine inherited Strand 2 based on the copy of Pearl and GP. I went to change his - to Sb1 and only found the w20 option which is weird because w20 is only on Strand 1. I then discovered I was able to add the w20, DP, and KP copies from Strand 1. I just checked today and now I can change the w20 to Sb1 when I wasn't able to originally(I know this because I don't typically prefer w20 and I love Sb1).I breed Drafts and star horses :D

Ah! It let me change it to W20, which is opposite the blank state on Strand 1, which in turn let me change it Sab 1, which is opposite the W20 on Strand 2! I think I've got the general reasoning behind it, too. She only had the blank state -, which made it impossible to genetically change her to anything but W20. Because W20 is on both strands, that allowed me to change her to Sab1. Daisychain!Thanked by 1HayesStable

Ok, so reading all that hurt my head!! So it means I can't add the GP because it's on the secondary strand?
-
Oh and I can't add the pearl or the tiger eye either! Bugger!
-
So foals that got secondary genes got them as a bonus, but anyone can gmt missing primary strand genes?

Ignore me. Brain fart.Post edited by bluchrystals at 2020-09-07 04:32:34

@Kintara that's correct. So ideally you want to aim to get the genes from the second strand as you can use GMT's to add the missed ones from the Primary.HJ1: 266615

I think I have my head around it! Bugger I missed out on the 2nd strand genes! Makes me a bit more wary with my own chimeric stock though, make sure everything I want is on the primary strand!
-
Well not wary so much as better informed, I didn't understand how that worked before, though we could gmt anything!

It won't stay that way forever, I just haven't figured how to make it work yet though.Need to contact me? Read this first.
