I'm fairly sure i read somewhere that horses train automatically in basic. I can't find it again.

If you click on the Train My Horses tab, the orange text should tell you if your horses will be trained automatically.

Yes, the basic upgrade gives you auto-training. When you create new horses, they will get their first training at the next nightly roll-over, or you can train them manually, if you don't want to wait for that.

I went to the Buy Upgrades page and read the list of benefits of the Basic Upgrade to make sure my memory was correct. That page will give most of the benefits of both Basic and Premium upgrades.

Auto training happens on Sundays, but because it trains all the upgraded horses in the whole game it takes most of the day. I like waiting till Monday to go through and enter all my barns for shows, then coming back Weds or Thurs to show again.
