Lifetime payout question
-
I know this has probably been asked before, but I’m having trouble understanding.
I have a 12 year old mare with a 14K lifetime payout. I’m low on barn space and can’t afford to buy more. Auctioning her would give me barn space as well as a nice bit of cash that I can use to create or buy younger show horses so I can build up their lifetime payout.
However, I always read about how you should keep your show horses until they pass away. If I had the barn space, I would end up doing that, but I can’t, so wouldn’t it be better to auction her?I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me! -
Look at her page and see how much she gives you in daily payout. Then check to see if she has levelled off yet or is still being trained. If she has levelled off then have a look at her show scores. If she is consistently scoring high then it will be worth keeping her.
If you post a link to her then perhaps other players can give you better advice.Thanked by 1Nightphoenix -
Thanks, I was using her as a kind of hypothetical example. I’m hoping to get maybe one candy pony or some lotto wins before the end of the month, so I need to clear out some space.I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. A general tip that's good for many barns that just need to make space - Group by age and auction off the lowest scorers of each age group. Only sell off the 7 - 8 - 9 yr olds if absolutely necessary, they'll make a much better profit being sold as 10 year olds. If you do toss them in the auction, be sure to put a post up with a link to them, you'll probably make a little more money by getting other barns interested.Bluegrass #143376 * Specializing in Iced Axiom (ExPro Cobs) and Iced Phantoms (PF Riding Ponies)

I auction all horses over 10 years old if they are leveled off in a bad place. If they are consistently placing last in a class, they aren't earning much for, points. I would rather the room for a younger horse who can earn points.Thanked by 1Nightphoenix
