Culling Show Foals
-
I only have a few stalls of space left, so I’ll be doing a show horse cull after all my horses show next week. I know that foal show results are random and can’t be used to judge a foal’s show potential. However, negative scores would indicate that a foal may level off lower than a foal who always scores positive, right? If so, would it be a good idea for me to auction the foals that keep getting negative scores? I really need the space.
Thank you!I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me! -
If you absolutely need the space, I would cull according to PT score and consistent/inconsistent.
Anyone below a certain number gets culled (I did below 10 early in my game with 2G foals) and of you still need space after that, cull inconsistent.Thanked by 1Nightphoenix -
You may also consider auctioning those over 10 that have leveled off in a space where they are not accruing any additional points - that way you can keep the potential of the foals while cashing in some of those lifetime payouts."Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving." - PTerry Pratchett

I’ve been slowly doing that over the past month and every older horse I have now is still earning points, but thank you!I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I cull show foals at 2nd and 3rd gen that don't have a PT score of at least 11. I generally wait until my show horses are like 15 or so before I check on them.Thanked by 1Nightphoenix

Negative scores for yearlings mean absolutely nothing at all other than that they have some inconsistency.

Second gen at 11 PT? Wow. Do you boost your foundations?
-
No I don't boost my foundations. It's just that sometimes I get lucky with my 2nd gen pasture foals.
Like this mare for example
https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=10110319
Her foundation grandparents are two B x Yellow crosses, her sire is an A and her dam is a Blue. All the horses in her pedigree are superior to their parents.
One of her foals is a Star papered son.
I also should note that I pasture breed, and I leave my mares in the pastures full time. Only time I remove them are when they age out, usually.Post edited by Forestshadow at 2020-10-24 14:34:46
