How do you paper a horse? I want to get one of my new colts and one of my new fillies papered.

He is pretty! You need an upgrade to use the Breeding Inspection feature, which is how horses get papers.

Adopting an animal is something I've wanted to do for a while, and luckily for me, there's an animal shelter next county over, its about a 45 minute drive. So at least I won't have to drive 2-3 hours to go to a shelter, but I'm sure it'd be worth it either way.

The simple truth is that you can breed any way you want to! :P But, I get what you're asking!

Herd Helpers are there to give you a chance to get colors/color combinations you won't get from the basic Create A Horse button. The higher the rank, the more rare the color/combination. There are a few (more now than there ever have been) Herd Helpers with increased abilities instead of or in addition to the colors; Exceptionally Perfect, Perfect Foundations, Exceptional Producers, Super Consistant, etc. The tough part is getting the HH you want color wise, with the additional abilities! The point is that just because it is a higher ranked HH doesn't mean it will automatically fit your goals.

Any intact horse can be papered. The owner just has to fork over the Horse Bucks to pay for the test. The test determines the horses breeding ability ONLY, it doesn't have any effect on the horses training or showing ability.

Generally, you want to breed horses with similar paper levels, since the goal is for the foal to paper higher than its parents (unless you just want to breed for color, then who cares as long as it's pretty!). Some people are more strict than others and breed for color AND for breeding ability. Again, it's all your choice.

More people will see it that way and you will get a broader range of responses, as well as sharing the answers with more people who might not feel comfortable asking (this thread is basically just for new players who joined in December).

The sales boards should clear out at every monthly rollover, but, no, public sales don't work like the auctions. If you want to be rid of the horse you can sell it back to the game (one of the options on the control panel page), but you only get $1000 for that sale, and the horse is completely removed from the game (not archived unless they had a foal somewhere along the line)
