  • Hes handsome! Odd question but i see you put double copies of sooty plus on each strand . What exactly does this do? Does it cause both strands of sooty plus to be homozygous? So every foal is garunteed to have one strand from each side?
  • One copy on each strand*
  • Perfect!

  • @Brandybrookes, The best way to make certain that a gene will pass on to any foal is to make that certain gene Homozygous, but the foal will only be Het for it (not Hom) unless the dam/sire also caries that gene as well (then the foal can be Hom depending on if dam/sire is or not). So in a way yes, the foal is guaranteed at least one copy of S+ if the one parent is Hom for S+, but if Both parents are Homozygous for S+ then the foal will get 1 copy of S+ each from the parents. Hope that helps! :)

  • Thank you horseangel, i thought when a horse has per say E/E that stands for homozygous. But i looked at the tattoo area and noticed 2 copys of the same gene were put on the same strand and same as the other strand so doubling up the gene EE/EE but it technically doesn't do that? Maybe it was just a glitch or something was put on 4 times for a gene. I was curious as i havent seen it before and didnt know if it did anything or something glitched.
  • Sooty plus was put on 4 times, flaxen was put on 4 times and satain and a few others. I wasnt sure why and if it had any affect duplicating a gene on the same strand. I just thought if a horse had 1 copy on each strand that was homozygous. Or does duplicating each strand on a horse EE/EE make each strand of the bay gene homozygous? If thats the case ive been advertising all my horses wrong.
  • @Brandybrookes, Oh that! The horse above is a chimera, so it has 2 different DNA sets. Both of which can be GM'd separately in the Lab. Yes, it says flaxen was added 4 times but only 2 copies were put on the primary gene set and the other 2 on the second gene set! It is not possible to put more than 2 of any gene on the same DNA strand. In the RGS if you buy 1 copy of a gene, say S+, and the horse you want it on is a Chimera, then S+ will be put on Both the primary and secondary sets of the horse, 1 copy each without you having to buy it a second time as well.

And yes if the horse is E/E on one strand then it is Homozygous for the Black gene (bay is AA). If it says it as EE/EE then the gene was added to make Both DNA strands Hom (if it is Chimeric). E/e means the horse is only Het for black, a/A a horse is only Het for bay then. Hom Silver is Z/Z, Het is /Z and Dun D/D and so on!
