I don't think there's been a post about this but I'd love to know! A lot of players have unique names for their horses and I've always wondered how they came up with them.
I personally name my foundation stallions after whatever song is stuck in my head at the time, as you can tell I've got... diverse taste :))

Oh that's fun! I might have to start doing that too lol, I usually name them after their parents or grand parents if I can, usually come up with some interesting names haha. Otherwise, if a word or phrase pops into my head when I see them then I'll think of something based off that. A name generator is a pretty good idea though.

This is one that popped into my head when I saw him.

Yeah they turned out pretty awesome this season. My favorites by far are from the horse you added shatter glass to, Shes Godiva. The first colt is out her, she threw me some seriously amazing babies this season!

I used to name all of my horses with the prefix “Paradox” and I was into Legends of Tomorrow and “Rip Hunter”

A lot of my names come from songs

My favorite band

I keep changing my new guy’s name. He was “Honor Christmas” I keep shopping around various quotes and lines from “A Christmas Carol”

My Christmas Past horses from this year all have names that quotes from the book, specifically the part of the story with Ghost of Christmas Past

I have thought about using Song lyrics for names before and I love the name generator idea too! I usually use there HHs as inspiration or just something random that popped into my head unless I have something special that I want to name them, then that's what I do just coin phrases from there HHs lol! Also I too like your horses names paradox and have always thought them very unique!

Like my guy here, I named him this because he is a "Clean Slate"!

I name my foundation studs, but for the most part don't name the mares as it gives me more leeway naming the foals. Following gens are for the most part named using a combination from their ancestors names. Though sometimes a use a synonym of a common word.

And I just sold Denali (GMC but still linked to chevy lol)

My chinchilla stallions for some reason start with the sound "Sin"

Some horses are named after songs... Voodoo Two Point Oh was named after Voodoo Dolls who was named after the Ricky Martin song Livin La Vida Loca because I had the "Black cats and Voodoo Dolls" part of the song stuck in my head :))

Other than that, I kind of just name my horses how I feel...
I have one mare named Fallin Behind because I totally forgot I had her and that she needed GMT work done to her

It depends! If they're part of a specific line I will have the line name. For example I have a Beignet line named after my bunny by the same name so all of the horses have that, and a Wallace line after my bunny Wally. On Forest I have a horse named Jupiter Storms who is watercolor and wrong warp. His best foals that have both but aren't super black have planetary or celestial names like Mars Rising and Downtown Venus and the horses with a high white factor making the wrong warp come out really black have fantasy names that are kind of evil like Voidbringer and Odium. Sometimes I just use the random name generator, but on most of my lined horses the name is what generation they are, shorthand for what genes they have, and their paper level.

I like to name my livers after Skyrim deities and towns, but I've named horses after songs and bands, my chinchilla lines tend to get names occult/witchy things, but there's a smattering of everything in there. My new chinchilla stud was a gift from WhiteValley, and I grew up in a community called Bear Valley, so that's his name.

My new DP cremello stud (who is guaranteed to throw chocolate palominos - so excited) I named Valentine, because I've always loved the idea of a stallion named Valentine :))

I name the vast majority after videogames and books, and miscellaneous song lyrics I'm listening to at the time. Mad props to whoever gets the names whenever they stumble upon them :-) I name a lot of them after towns, and also my partner helps me name them sometimes too hehe.

Edit: I almost forgot! I name my hoard of clean slates after metals, alloys, and minerals, and my Imanis after birds.

Sorry, I know I’m very late to this, but I keep a running list of horse names on my phone. The names could be from song lyrics, phrases, and I’ve even used the names of makeup products, haha! Any time I think of a name, I go straight to my phone and write it down.

On foundations, I only name the ones with GMT work on them. All others get what lines they are in, what kind of RS/expro they are, and their ID number ("M2 PT #" for example, for a horse that belongs to my mushroom/DP line and is a Pretzel Twist). I want to be able to know where I want them when I see them in the list on the pastures, or be able to search them quickly.

Mine are mostly named after their HH, I suck at coming up with names :)) so I recently just had a contest to help name 3 of my gifts from the gift exchange.

I love naming foundations because anything goes. I always try to name offspring of my foundations based on the names in their lineages so naming lined horses can be challenging. But foundies are fun because it's a chance to start a new line of fun names :)

More often than not my foundations' names are some kind of pop culture reference - songs are common, as are movie/video game characters or other popular things. Some are more obscure than others.

If the horse is a Rank Special, I'll often use the name of the RS as inspiration, directly or indirectly.

Out with a Bang FTF

And then, sometimes it's both! Haha! :)

Twist and Shout FTF

And then from there it's fun to continue the naming convention into the horse's ancestors. I've had lines named after species of trees, after Lord of the Rings characters, after song lyrics from bands I love... the possibilities are endless :)
