"Name My Horse" contest!
-
I've got a little mare at home that has gone long enough without a name! I'm getting tired of calling her "the little black and white mare" and I'm drawing a blank as to what to call her. I don't want something long and complicated, just a good, solid name that suits her.
She is an adorable miniature rescued mare with a sweet, willing personality and a bad leg/over grown hooves. After putting her on a joint, hoof & coat supplement, she has really started to blossom from a mare that spent most of her time down and could barely walk more than a few steps to one that can drag me all over creation with the lead rope when she sees food!
Winner will receive 100K and these two lovely gold mares. Don't forget to put your ID# in your post!

Follyfoot
Follyfoot was the name of a children's TV series in Britain in the early 1970s. This is a quote from the Wikipedia entry about the programme. 'The series, which was filmed on the Harewood family estate, was set at a home of rest for horses. Despite an apparent appeal limited to young girls with an equine interest, Follyfoot was actually aimed squarely at the teenage market and often had challenging things to say about the treatment of horses and animals generally in British society. The ethos of Follyfoot generally was to give another chance to both horses and people who had been rejected by the rest of society:...' I remember watching it and it had a wonderful theme tune called 'The Lightning Tree'. I thought the name Follyfoot appropriate since you rescued your mare to give her a better life and she had trouble with her feet.

Fiddles
She reminds me of a wonderful pony we had at our therapeutic riding program. Our Fiddles wasn't a mini, but her markings are very much like those of your little mare.
She's the one in the lead.
Here's one of Fiddles without someone chasing her in the picture. Both were taken the day we got her and released her into the herd. There was a lot of running around that day.Post edited by SandyCreekAcres at 2016-08-30 07:47:35Thanked by 1High Five Acres -
Awww she looks like a sweet little mare :)
I've always liked the name "Felicity." It's an old English name that means "happiness" and I think it also means good luck or something like that (because she's lucky to have such a good home now!)
-- Jozylee (I.D. 226526)
Also, I just looked up nicknames for Felicity and these came up: Flick, Fliss, Lissie, FlossPost edited by jozylee at 2016-08-30 09:26:31Thanked by 1High Five Acres -
I'm partial to the name Maeve. Tried to name my bird that and it just didn't fit her. Maybe it would work for your little mare :)

Why not name her blossom? Since she blossomed up so much since you rescued her!
And she looks so cute so I think that fits too ;)

Aw I'm actually getting emotional right now. I used to show and train mini horses, and the little sassy mare that got me into it looks exactly like her. Nobody else could handle her besides me. My mom saw how good I was doing with her and was just starting to consider buying her for me. I came back to the barn the next morning and saw a big trailer leaving with a ton of minis in it. When I went to find the mare that I loved and noticed she didn't seem to be anywhere, after searching every square inch of the giant pastures, I knocked on the door of the barn manager and asked where she went. She told me she was in that big trailer being sent off to Australia (I live in the US) to be a broodmare. Her name was Jingle. I had just bought her a brand new purple halter and matching grooming supplies omg I'm crying now gah

I actually had a tobiano gelding who's show name was Famous Amos and I just called him Crumb in the barn for his habit of leaving his feed all over his stall haha. So Cookie, Crumb, or Ginger haha.

"Shorty Pants ..." Shorty for short and Shorty Pants when we need a full name call by Momma
We had a rescue shetland stud (not sure how old he was ... fully grown and the vet gave us a year of maybe five) that my grandfather actually picked up and put in the back of the truck when we rescued him, he was that bad. So with much feeding and love (and gelding as when he started feeling better we found out fast he wasn't a gelding) We were finally able to train him up and used him the mountains as a riding/pack horse.
We did end up selling him ... but he became a movie star. He was sold to a trainer that we knew and actually went to Japan for the filming of the Last Samurai as a stunt horse.
He was named Shorty Pants when Grandpa put him in the truck ... said "Not to worry Shorty Pants we gotcha now".
She's got the same look that Shorty had when he was about to "get into" something. Same colour and pattern :)

Ok, guys! The results are in and...
It was a tough call between Button, Blossom & Cameo, but congrats to Hayes Stable for the name Button. It truly does fit her!
BUT WAIT! No one goes away empty handed here at High Five Acres! Everyone will get there choice of consolation prize. Choose from a guaranteed straw, a high points show horse or brand new brood mare to add to your herd along with 10k in spending money to thank you for your entry into this little contest! Hayes Stable, you can also choose a guaranteed straw as well.
Below I have a list of everyone's names & ID #s. Copy and paste the list (so I don't get all dazed and confused about which way is up) and after your ID# please put your preference of prize.
1. For straws - pick a generation (ie. foundation, 2g, 3g, etc) and/or color. If there is a specific color you don't like or prefer not to breed, please let me know!
2. For show horse, it will be my pick, but you will be getting a horse under 11 years old and with at least 500 points.
3. For a brood mare, please pick a generation and/or color. Again, if there is a specific color you don't like or prefer not to breed, let me know!

Since I am always delighted to be adding to my string of show horses and have more intact horses than I can ever find time and energy to breed, even with pastures, I won't need a replacement straw. I put him through the Gelding Papering test just to see if that would give a clue to what Charlie saw in him that caused him to be gelded. It made the reason very clear. *G*
