Baby Goats
-
I know a few people requested baby goat pictures... Not only did my doe, Holli, kid a huge buckling on the 18th that resulted in an emergency vet visit... But my other doe kidded these two beautiful babies last night! The doeling is the two-toned Chamoisee and the buckling is the broken chamoise with the floppy ear (it'll stand up in time thankfully!)
Yet again, I need a GMT to change the buckling's gender :))
He was 100% what I wanted out of their dad but in doe form :((
My daughters named them Komplete Khaos Acres Phoenix and Komplete Khaos Acres Rose! The funny thing about Rose's name is I don't think my oldest daughter realized that their mom's real name is Azalea (we just call her Leah)! Leah's oldest daughter that we own is Daisy and Leah's grandson that we also own is Aster (a purple daisy). So Rose fit the little girl perfectly!
Thankfully Phoenix and Huck have homes already and they'll get to stay together!Post edited by LEAcres at 2021-01-21 13:18:35Thanked by 1Ammit -

Thank you everyone! I am so excited to watch these little ones grow! I love my adults but I absolutely love kidding season!
I still have 3 does left to kid.. my Boer Kiko cross is due around March or April, my Nigerian Dwarf doe is due April 27th and my Boer doe is due lord only knows when (I just got her and the Boer Kiko cross 2 weeks ago and the Boer doe is absolutely petrified of people so I haven't been able to feel for babies yet.. I might get a blood test done on her when I pull blood for disease testing) -
Looks like fun. I’ve wanted to try raising goats for awhile but probably won’t be able to anytime soon. So seeing your babies is the best. My family’s cows will start calving in about a month.
Is the floppy ear undesirable in goats? I know with our calves it’s usually a sign they are sick.
-
@silverstar it's a trait default for the Alpine breed. Thankfully it's only floppy because of the way he was laying in the womb. It's already started to stand up like his sister's except for the very top is still weak and flopped over
-
I see, nice that it’s standing up for you now.
-
Ah they're all so adorable!
-
I miss my Alpine's sooo much! Thank you for sharing. It made my heart all warm and fuzzy.

@Foxhntr26 I am so glad they could bring back memories for you! :x
Babies had their first snow today! :)
They weren't sure of it but Huck was the first one to come out and start bounding around... Rose thought the snow was yummy since all she did was licked it... Phoenix was sticking close to mom in the birthing shed... I figured out Phoenix is my spirit animal... I hate snow too :)) -
Well... our first Boer baby was born today!
I'm having a horrible run with boys this season :((
But this little guy is an absolute cutie!
Unfortunately mom is still in quarantine and her blood test for infectious diseases hasn't come back yet so for his safety, we pulled him shortly after birth and he'll be bottle fed. The infectious diseases goats can carry are mostly passed from mother to baby through colostrum. Thankfully I've been hoarding colostrum from my dairy does to give him a boost until tomorrow morning!Post edited by LEAcres at 2021-02-05 05:01:05 -

@KhaosAcres I'm obsessed with your new babies! They're all so beautiful, they look like they're thriving and all healthy too! Do you sell your goat babies?
-
@Oatsman I do! Huck and Phoenix already have a home when they are weaned and Rex will find a home once he is weaned.. it's going to be hard giving him up lol
But as of right now, Rose will probably stay through her first breeding and then a decision will be made if I want to keep Rose or her half sister Daisy (same mom) -

I love them!! I nearly got Alpines but decided on NDs as there's only a few Alpine breeders in the state, but they're still one of my favorite breeds (and seeing baby pictures of them definitely doesn't hurt lol).ID is 267069 / she/they/he

@Stardistgirl I have a few Nigerians but ultimately decided on the Alpine since the Nigerians are so popular in my area.. I drove 4 hours one way last month just to pick up my new French Alpine buckling X_X
But I die from cuteness overload every time I see a Nigerian baby :))
