Advice when going into a new breeding season
  • This breeding season was kinda a flop for me and i would really like some advice about going into a new breeding season and different things i should be doing to prepare
I go by he/him. Its challenging for me to understand longer sentences and spell larger words, so sorry if i mess up a bit with stuff like that, Have a swag day :)
  • 1) knowing what you want to breed for is very helpful, lol; make sure that you're not setting completely unrealistic goals(such as trying to breed two horses that have 'e and e' and expecting a foal with 'E and E')
    2) make sure you have space and/or a plan on how to determine which foals to keep or sell
    3) you can leave your mares(3years and older) in the pasture to give them a small bonus next season

  • Most horses will end up getting spayed or gelded. This is a good thing - you want those show ponies in your barn. They are your money earners.

  • -Take advantage of that sweet, sweet pasture bonus! Mares earn a tiny bonus each consecutive day they spend in the pasture, up to 30 days. Mares that have been in the pasture 30+ days get a lovely bonus (meaning their foals are more likely to remain intact after breeding advice).

-When I was new, I spent some time browsing the search page and taking note of any horses that caught my eye, then compared their genes to see what it was that made them attractive to me. Breed for what you like! There are no rules for breeding here. :)

-Spay/geld any horses you don’t plan on breeding, as they’ll receive a training bonus. More money for more breeding! :D

  • When a new breeding season starts, I like to go through my pastures, look at the oldest mares first, check their afpt scores. If there's a underperforming mare, she gets spayed and yummed if she has foals. If she's a certain age and has no foals, she gets spayed and auctioned off under her number ID. Then put in the new 3 year old fillies so they'll have as much pasture bonus as possible before they get bred as 4 year olds.
