Contest: Create your Favourite Horse - Closed
  • Hey folks, I'm gearing up for some exams soon and figured that it would be nice to make a fun contest to give myself something to look forward to for when I'm done. Hopefully you find it fun as well!

Here's the challenge: create a horse on the game that is as close as possible to one of your favourite horses. You could try to replicate a real-life horse, perhaps one that you've ridden or own, or even a famous horse. You could also try to replicate a fictional horse, so long as there is either a picture of what that horse looks like or a good description.

The only rule is please don't simply buy a horse that someone else created. Creating or breeding the horse yourself is preferred. If you do want to use a horse that someone else created, I'd prefer if you do something creative with tack or use GMTs, or something along those lines.

How to enter? Just post a picture of your created horse, a picture of the horse you are replicating, and a short explanation of why you like the horse you picked.
(I think the easiest way to include an external picture is to link to an image-sharing site like imgur, correct me if I'm wrong).

Since it is hard to objectively judge these kinds of things, I'm going to give away 20,000hbs to everyone who enters.

I'm also giving away three grand prizes for:
    - Most faithful replication,
    - Most creative replication, and
    - Best replication from a stable with a showing bonus under 10,000hbs.

Appearance (height, colour, bone weight, tack) and Degree of Difficulty will be taken into account.

Winners will receive a grand prize of an additional 50,000 hbs. And if you would like, I am also offering a custom banner and/or 3 custom tattoos.
(I'm not an artist by any means, but I can do decent image manipulation, e.g. https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=10542044)

Contest is going to close on March 1st so everyone gets in a full breeding season.

  • I choose The Black(The Black Stallion). I choose the Black because he is my favorite fictional horse. I was lucky enough to get a True Breeding Black HH this morning.

  • Anyone who has watched The Wizard of OZ knows about the horse of a different color. The horse in the movie does change colors many times however it begins its transition from white to this lovely shade of purple. You can google the exact clip simply by looking up "Wizard of OZ horse of a different color" to see the grand entrance they make through the green land of OZ.

I think this link will take you to the horse I replicated

  • Thanks for entering @cissycat and @TennesseeRain really great choices! Of course the Black Stallion is a classic and that was a perfect create to use with the mane/tail. And wow, I'd forgotten about the horse of a different colour, but that is definitely a fantastic colour match.

I've sent you both the hbs for entering. Stay tuned for the end of the contest!

  • I made my horse, Eddie, who's an Arabian I've had for almost fifteen years.

His white markings aren't QUITE right, but blame the rerolling feature for not getting his socks just right lol

  • I decided to go with one of my favorite's (as seen with my stable tattoo lol) and one of the most recongnized creatures in Greek Mythology, the beautiful Pegasus! I found the closest horse to him that I had bred, wish I could put wings on him too! Pegasus is described as a mythical immortal winged horse and is usually depicted as being a pure white wild stallion. He is said to be a very elegant steed with beautiful feathered wings, so I chose a light boned horse and I used the Grey color to give the almost pure white look! And a full mane to hopefully give a untamed or wild impression while still being graceful. I would think Pegasus to be a rather big/tall stud too, unfortunately I didn't have any taller horse. He is also a constellation, so I have chosen a stary background for my boy and I even included the charmed golden bridle that the hero Bellerophon (which he had gotten from the goddess Athena ) used to tame Pegasus in the myth!

    image
    2B Pegasus

Also did you know that Pegasus was the winged horses actual name in mythology and that we now call All winged horses Pegasus because of him? He was also born from the blood of Medusa after the hero Pursues beheaded her and is an offspring of the god Poseidon as well! :)

  • I chose my mare who I rode for her owner. Her name was Athena or her registered name was Wenlock Bey (I believe that’s how you spelled it) she was a little bay QH that stood around 15.1-15.2. I started riding her in 2016 she taught me how to Lope (canter) jog (trot), and generally just basics of western riding. She was 25ish when I started riding her and 27ish when we had to Put her down due tto old age, she was a really hard keeper during the winter and she went lame at one point. My last ride on her was a bareback ride and I enjoyed it. I even have a peice Of her tail from when she’s passed. I believe it’s been almost 4year since she passed away.

This mare of mine is the closest I could find to her, the markings are different but most my other bays were multi patterened.
Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.
  • I’ve always enjoyed older tv shows. One of my favorites is Mister Ed, so I decided to make him. I would have made one of my own boy, as he is definitely my favorite, but that would have required more GMTs than I can put into it right now.

  • Haha I've got to think of a different horse because my favorite has liver appaloosa like spots that I researched because of this challenge. Turns out it's probably bend-or spots, which has an unknown genetic link! So if you're nerdy, look into that one lol!!
  • Wow, some really great renditions everyone! @KhaosAcres that is a lovely horse, hopefully it all works out getting another one. By the way, if you want to be in the running for the top 3 prizes (completely optional), I will need a real life picture of the horse you are replicating, or if that's not possible, you're welcome to enter another! @OscarWildin great work with Eddie, that's awesome that you've been together for 15 years! @HorseAngel and of course Pegasus is a great choice as well, the mythology is really cool and I like the idea with the starry background! I've sent you all a transfer for entering.

I'm going to get to everyone else in the next couple days here, thanks for your patience!

  • @CrownestRidge, I don’t know how to get a real pic of her on here.
Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.
  • Question: I managed to roll up a horse that's pretty similar to the one I want to replicate, except for the face white. If I end up rolling a closer look-alike during the month, may I withdraw my entry in favor of the new horse?

  • @ChateauAlbere absolutely, that is completely fine! @GildedFire in terms of uploading pictures there are a few things you could try. You can upload images on imgur with a free account, create a new post (either private or public) and then generate a link to your picture that you can copy and paste in here. I believe that you can also upload an image onto google drive and then also generate a link and copy and paste it in here as well. If you're still having difficulties, send me a private message and we can hopefully get the issue sorted out!

  • Cool, in that case, for now, I present to you Sapphire, a dark chestnut Belgian Warmblood who used to be ridden by McLain Ward. Sapphire was an amazing athlete but unfortunately colicked and was put down in 2014. She had four foals (two by embryo transfer) and was cloned twice.

    image
    McLain Wards Sapphire

I used an exceptionally perfect base (because she is!). Winner's circle background, because she spent a lot of time there. The real Sapphire had a blaze which was *just* wide enough to be seen in profile. She used various tack set-ups throughout her career, but I modeled her off this picture where she is in a Pelham (ridden with a converter, so I used just the snaffle rein), including her blue trim saddle pad.

  • Also, to catch up on the entries... @GildedFire thanks for entering, it sounds like you had a really cool relationship with Athena and I'm glad that you got to enjoy the years that you had together. Always amazing when a horse can teach you new things. @MountainView Mr. Ed is a great choice, I'd forgotten that he was a palomino! Definitely a very talented horse. You should both have your hbs for entering!

  • I decided to create one of my own horses Flint, he was the second horse I’ve ever started and is very special to me. His only marking is a big quirky star on his forehead. He’s also 7 and 15.2HH.

    image
    Zz Flintlock

I found duplicating everything to be difficult since I rarely ride him in any form of brindal. Mostly I use a rope halter and lead or a bosal, which aren’t in any tack packs. I also don’t use typical split reins, I use loop reins or a lead rope. Here’s a pic of our first solo ride of the season.

  • Hey folks, @Ammit has very graciously donated an extra 100,000 hbs towards the prize pool here, so I'm going to add 35,000hbs to each of the three grand prizes, moving them up from 50,000 to 85,000. I'm really enjoying all of the entries so far!

And just a reminder if you are entering as a stable with a showing bonus under 10,000 per day please remember to put that in your post so I don't forget to consider you for that category.

  • This has been driving me crazy. I wanted to create a game horse that would look like the mare Rosie, who belonged to the therapeutic riding horse program my daughter and I volunteer with. She left us about a year and a half ago, (aged about 25) to the best of my memory, when she was suffering from a tumor on her left ovary that gave her extremely elevated testosterone (!) levels. We had known her from the day of her birth, had been actively involved in training her, and still miss her. Here's a link to the best picture of her I can find in my Pbase account.

    https://pbase.com/malewis/image/167422133

As you can see, she had a fair blaze and light hair on her lower legs. She was a cobby halflinger (at least half, that we know for sure), 13.1 hands high She was a dark flaxen chestnut with faint dapples. Trying to reroll a game image that has all that on the same image has been a frustrating process.

Here's the best I could do, a little tall (13.2), no blaze, and darker mane and tail, and the socks are a bit too white.

  • Thank you, CrowsnestRidge. This is a great contest.

  • This is so fun!

Some breeding seasons back I kept this guy because he reminded me of my former horse from years ago. Or at least halfway. My horse Flash was a 15.3 Arabian gelding with a big blaze, three stockings and a small white spot on the third leg. At the time I was a bit suspicious because I had always heard the simplified version of genetics: Arabs don’t have spots. Or roan. But his white knee spot didn’t seem like a scar. Now having played online horse genetic games, I wonder if he had sabino2. And I can also recognize that he had light rabicano on his ribs (which were more prominent when he shed out in summer).

    Flash:

    Half Flash

And note, I’m sitting comfortably at a daily showing bonus of 3,097 :)
  • Glad you had fun @Kaysa thanks for entering! Great work with the socks and blaze, and for sure, it is always fun to try to theorize about the genetics when looking at a real-life horse. Definitely easier with the simple genetics test on the game here! I've sent you the hbs for entering.

  • Also just a reminder to everyone, the contest is closing soon - I'm going to officially stop taking entries tomorrow (Mar. 1st) at 10pm game time. Also, if you want to be considered for the under 10,000hbs show bonus category please remember to include that info in your entry as well.

I am breeding Jellyfish horses and have a lot for sale on a forum post! I am active a lot and would be happy to help you with any questions!
  • Alright, thanks everyone for participating!

I really enjoyed learning about all of the horses that everyone chose, we had a really great mix of wonderful real-life friends and champions and of course some fictional favourites too. If anyone missed out on getting the hbs from me for participating, please let me know, I'm glad I was able to give everyone a small prize because, wow... it has been hard to decide on the grand prizes.

In the under 10,000 showing bonus category, I honestly couldn't decide. @Kaysa did such a great job with the blaze and socks for Flash and even chose the same mane and tail style as the photo. @HorseCrazyByNature did a really fantastic job making the bridle and saddle match the picture, along with doing great work with the amount and size of spots to match Winnie. So I'm going to split the prize and give you each 42,500hbs.

In the most faithful representation category, this was really tricky. So many people did a really fantastic job. I decided to give the 85,000hbs prize to @ChateauAlbere for Sapphire because of the truly impressive attention to detail picking out the right colour horse, the exact style bridle, same colour blanket, saddle pad, saddle... I could go on. Really liked the thought behind putting her in the winner's circle and being "exceptionally perfect." I'm also going to give a discretionary runner-up prize of 20,000hbs to @SandyCreekAcres for Rosie again for some very impressive attention to detail with the height, bone weight, lovely white socks and really great selection of the same fenced background.

In the most creative representation category, I also had a hard time (kind of a running theme). Ultimately I decided to give the 85,000hbs prize to @HorseAngel for the very tricky prospect of doing Pegasus. Despite not having wings to work with, I really liked all the thought that went into it, from using a light boned horse (to make flying easier), the golden bridle, and the starry night sky with a tie-in to the constellation Pegasus. I'm also going to give a discretionary runner-up prize of 20,000hbs to @TennesseeRain for the Horse of a Different Colour which was another tricky challenge done very well. Fantastic colour matching and I'm guessing you picked the green hedge background to give an Emerald City vibe.

In order to claim your prize, please send me a message with a horse for sale for the amount that you've won. I definitely don't have the hbs to do this all via direct transfers!
