Auto breeding issue?
-
I was putting stallions into my 3rd gen pasture, but I wasn't finished. I had to GMT one boy before I could use him as the third stallion, and while I was doing that, the pasture auto bred itself. As a result, the new boy missed out on breeding and one of the other 2 stallions is maxed out on live covers. The pasture had no stallions present yesterday. I'm sure I didn't accidentally click "breed this pasture" while I was GMTing the boy. Was that intended?
I'm not happy this happened because now the new boy will be 7 years old by the time I get to use him again on my stallion rotation. I had figured that the auto breed stuff would have finished by the time I logged in because I had no stallions in pasture.Post edited by Ammit at 2021-04-15 03:18:09 -
Or the auto breed could have happened when I refreshed the pasture to make sure all 3 boys were placed there but I don't think refreshing should have caused the auto breeding to take place because I'm pretty sure I hadn't clicked "breed this pasture" yet.
Anyway, all I know is that I have never had this happen to me before.Post edited by Forestshadow at 2021-04-14 12:55:24 -
I'm sorry to hear this happened to you.
The pastures bred at a specific time, you may have just been working on them when the function was activated. I think it breeds different accounts at different times as I got 3 emails today at various times for my accounts.Post edited by DarkFrost at 2021-04-14 13:01:48HJ1: 266615

I'm sure Ammit would be able to give a specific answer. Before the pasture rework, the autobreeding took the moment someone logged in on the 14th. Now that the pastures have been revamped some, I don't know if that's still the case.
-
I'm not sure if it has taken effect yet, but it was mentioned in forum that a 'true' autobreeding was in the works. That may be what happened.

I hadn’t logged into any of the accounts, so they bred themselves, but yes I am sure ammit will respond at some point. Just wanted to give you a response as I saw you were frustrated.HJ1: 266615

Well the main thing for me - is how do I avoid auto breeding? That really messed up my breeding season for that particular generation and pasture. I had assumed that I wouldn't need to worry about auto breeding since I had no boys in pasture when I logged in.
That poor new boy missed out on so many hot dates. Instead of just 4 foals which did not pass SBA, he should have had at least 20 foals. The only reason why he has foals at all is because some mares were thankfully missed by the unwanted and unplanned autobreeding.
Rereading that forum post, I didn't see any explanation about how "true" auto breeding would work.Post edited by Forestshadow at 2021-04-14 19:39:08 -
Ammit posted I am working to get true auto breeding (without login) back and working. I expect this next week sometime. So I would assume it is working now. The only way to NOT breed auto would be to remove all the studs from every Pasture then add them back when you have decided to breed.

It's past the 14th and pastures are auto breeding now. Auto breeding runs continuously through the entire second half of a month. If a pasture has not bred yet and you put ANY stallion in it it will breed. Don't add stallions to a pasture once they are running if you don't want it to breed.
This was working already last month.
Are you the member who made the post before who was so upset about how pastures were working before the updates? I am trying to connect the dots here.Post edited by Ammit at 2021-04-15 03:24:56Need to contact me? Read this first.

Hmmm... yes, that was me about the pastures not breeding all the mares. I have since cut back on my pastures to 1 pasture per generation instead of the two I had per generation.
So based on what has been said, it seems like I have two options.
Either I get all my breeding done before the 14th since I don't want my pastures to be messed up. I don't think that's the ideal solution for me, since I like taking my time and I usually have to sort my pastures first before I'm ready for breeding.
Or the second option is to make sure my boys are ready _before_ I put them in pasture, and move all 3 at once into the pasture. I think that would be more workable, just gonna have to remember to do that.
Would the second option work? I'm trying to figure out a way around the auto breeding so my boys all get a fair shake.

I was trying to get the pasture breeding bonus for the foals and put mares and studs into a new pasture today, not realizing that they will auto breed through the end of the month ; and they bred, oh well no foal bonus on that one this month. I think I am going to keep all the studs in the barn and "mass" move them with the Check option to ensure the girls get the bonus and the boys go in the correct places. Hope that helps you also @Forestshadow

I'm in the process of sorting my 4th gen to get ready for breeding, I guess there's really only one way to find out for sure.
-
Ok, I got my boys ready and put them in the pasture. Nothing happened. I guess the second approach will work the best to avoid any more surprises.
-
Pastures run several times throughout the day not instantly. You just need to wait and put your studs in when you are ready.
Pastures only auto breed IF they have never bred this season. Once an email is sent for a pasture it will no longer auto breed. Just like you had one shot at auto breeding before, each pasture only has one shot at auto breeding now.Post edited by Ammit at 2021-04-16 04:34:47Need to contact me? Read this first.

Oh ok thanks for the clarification

Interesting, I got caught with that today too, I was thinking, hey I didn't breed that pasture! I'll keep it in mind now!!
-
If the pasture says it will "send an email" that means it has not been bred yet and will auto breed at the soonest possible opportunity.Need to contact me? Read this first.
