Project Line Woes! Pretty Bummed
-
I have decided to breed my little project lines over this last week since there only 10 acres each and way more manageable right now than my other main ones while I am sick an in bed. I waited for 4 months to be able to breed the first of my 2nd gens since starting them, was so so excited for when the time came and was very hopeful for a good crop and............the results were a bit Less then great. It seems like a roller coaster ride with all the ups and downs, could have really used more of a win but maybe better luck next season I guess. :-??
Anyways I just wanted to share and maybe..........just rant a little bit lol! :))
First up is one of my favorite's, my Grullo/ Champagne Spring Phantom line! They started from C/Yellow and I am actually pretty proud of them so far......now if they could just make it passed 2nd gen that would be great! :P
3Blu Unlucky Silver
This girl is Perfect! Best of there pasture, Blue papered, all the right genes but.......missed Both Phantoms for the line (hence her name)! All others were snipped! :(( I don't know whether to keep her or sell her since my aim is to get Hom Phantoms by 3rd or 4th gen? She is so pretty too!
Now my Candy Apple Brown Fall Phantom line wasn't much better! I had started out with Tobiano & W1 (before I knew they were a risky cross unfortunately) because I thought that W1 looked pretty with the Apples but I think I am going to swap it for Splash or other Kit gene eventually.
3Blue Broken Candy W1
Same thing with this pretty girl, No Phantoms otherwise Perfect, Blue papered and best of pasture. .......what am I supposed to do with her now? :-/
Fall Days SH
This guy was so Perfect! Hom for both Phantoms, Tobiano with no W1, DP, only missed the Cream and he was gelded, one of only 2 colts! :((
Now my Axiom Paintbrushes were a Little Bit better but still........only 3 actually came out Hom Axiom with Paintbrush and only one of them passed, a long with all the other foals only Het for either Paintbrush or Axiom. :|
The pretties:
Moons Blaze SH
Alien Life SH
This girl was a win though at least and I hope for many more like her! Blue papered, passed SBA and Hom Axiom, Hom Paintbrush! I hope she tests Sup to her dam as well :D
3Blu Galaxy Glow Ax PBC
And sadly No passing foals from my Chins this time either! A little disappointed about that this season, when you have such pretty ones like this:
Old Traveler SH A
Lightening Strike SH A
:(( :((
There were a few more but these were the Most Disappointing Ones, you can see the others through there sire's page for that line and there progress! All an all there weren't many survivors! Thanks for letting me share and going through the roller coaster with me! :) Hoping I will feel better enough next month to get more of my breeding done, so many of my boys just setting around this season lol!

Hehe they're all so cute!! I'm sorry most of em didn't pass, hopefully next season will be better! :D
-
Just out of curiousity ; were mares in pastures the full 30 days? I had rotten luck this season also ; in 1 pasture 1 stud colt was Best Of and papered higher than dad and tested SUP ; the rest of the pasture neutered on BA ><
-
My 2nd gen pastures are always my saddest. I am super strict on the genes, consistency etc. I generally keep 1 foal intact from every 15 or so mares. That is why I value my lines so much. It's hard work to get 3rd 4th 5th gen foals that are superior, carry the genes you want and are consistent.
-
@humboldt I've tried to be more strict in the last season or two as well, it's so saddening to spay/geld so many because they don't meet colour guidelines.HJ1: 266615

Thank you @Oatsman! I'm really hoping so! Sadly most of the snips are going to auction because I'm at full show barns until I can get another one.
@annismyrph, yes all mares in pasture were at the full bonus as I usually put them in when they are 3 years old, though most pastures only had about 10 or so actual mares for each line in pasture so far. Sounds like you had the bad luck that I did! That was the story for most of them this season as well!
@Humboldt & @DarkFrost, I have very much felt the same and I am working hard to get them all to move forward the way I want but it doesn't seem like they want to cooperate with me! I try to be as strict as I can, that's why All colts that are not Superior are either gelded or sold, All foals must pass SBA and be Superior to parent ideally with there required genes, I am a little lenient on consistency so that more pass but that's about it. This was a worse start for my fledgling 2nd gens then I had hoped for unfortunately. So many snips!
And I still am not sure what to do with the two pretty fillies that missed there Phantoms for their line but have litirly Everything else that I had wanted and papered Blue either. Any suggestions? Do i sell them off or keep them to try and use in that line still and hope for the best? They are the color that I want but my main goal was to get mostly Hom Phantoms by 4th gen with them. So it seems a little counterintuitive to me to be honest. Or do I just spray them for show ponies? It feels like a waste of a good stock mare that way though since there is nothing else wrong with them at all, their even both Consistent! So.........I'm at a loss here :-/ :-?Post edited by HorseAngel at 2021-04-26 15:33:59Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

This is frustrating. I’m struggling with my mesa satin line, and a WW/Lace line on this account. Either they get everything I want and don’t pass or get half of what I want and are the wrong gender, or they miss everything and pass with flying colors.
This is my current/last year ugg. He is perfect exactly what I want but missed the wrong warp. Now what do I do with him, turn him into a mare, geld him, sell him?

@Silverstar- That is exactly my question too! Have you figured out what to do with them yet? He is beautiful by the way! Unfortunately swapping their gender won't really help me much, it is definitely very frustrating! :(Post edited by HorseAngel at 2021-04-28 14:42:28Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! Geld if not perfect genes. You will eventually get what you want. I geld colts like crazy or occasionally turn them to mares. Occ I add genes in the GMT like DP or Kit gene if they got everything else.
-
Oh yeah! Quite a struggle this season with the colt fairy!
-
Most of them either get snipped or sold for a low price. A couple fit into my other breeding lines so they get transferred to a different line. The only reason I’m considering changing his gender is because he’s A papered and has lace, but he’s really low on my priority list for GMT modification so he may be snipped in a year or two.
-
I’m very strict with my colts, but not as strict with my fillies. If they pass SBA, are consistent, and have genes I like (I don’t breed for a specific gene combo, I just breed appaloosa combos that look appealing to me), I keep them. If I was as strict with my fillies as I am with my colts, then I wouldn’t have any mares for my stallions! It’s worked pretty well for me so far. I’m already getting a few superior 4th gens, and I’ve only been playing for a little over a year :)I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

@amgr1992 & @Nightphoenix, I was preferring to my two fillies from my Phantom lines in my post, I didn't even get any good passing colts either! I already snip or sell off my young studs if they don't fit or if I have too many of them. And so changing their gender to a stud won't be much good because neither one of them have the Phantoms that I want but got everything else. ........and were the only survivors from their pastures too. Thanks for the advice anyway Nightphoenix! :)
Though @Humboldt is it possible to add a fantasy gene on a lined horse if it was one that they have missed from a parent? Could I add the Phantom genes to them both in the lab maybe? If not then I like the idea of "transferring" them to a different line as @Silverstar put it. That would only work for my Champagne girl though since I don't use W1 anywhere else in my herd so the other filly may just be a broodmare/ET mare, either that or she gets spayed sadly or sold.Post edited by HorseAngel at 2021-04-29 16:30:16Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! I have not been able to adjust Fantasy genes to the lined horses. But KP, Satin, DP are just 1 GMT to switch to make my horses fit.
-
I actually get a lot more Superior colts than mares, but I only keep one colt from each stallion so I this season gelded a ton of superior colts. :( Very sad, if I made more show money I might consider switching some to mares, but just too expensive right now - will only do this for colts who were perfect but who I won't use to replace an existing stud.HJ1: 266615

Oh darn, ok well on with my new back-up plan then! Thank you @Humboldt and everyone else for all the help, it was much appreciated! :)
@DarkFrost- Same, there are always more Superior colts then mares it seems! I always need more mares but I like to keep 3 Sup colts from each of my boys and just roate them out in pasture. I do sometimes keep 1 or 2 to switch to mares but Only occasionally since it is very expensive and I need to save for more show barns too, so I don't do it very much either. It is a little painful to geld So many still though.Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

@HorseAngel ; I just found out from Blucrystals that soemtimes you can add the gene from the Cash Sales when they get missed by parents ;
-
@annismyrph, Really? Don't the genes have to be on sale in the GMT Lab for it to work first? That's great but I don't think it's an option for me right now, thank you very much for letting me know though! I'm going to see what this season brings and then go from there, hopefully things will be better. Thanks again! :)Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

@HorseAngel good luck this breeding season, I hope things go a lot better for you this round!
I'm really excited to use the straws you gave me :D -
Yes, they do have to be on sale in the GMT lab, @HorseAngel
-
Thank you @Oatsman, fingers are crossed! And your welcome, I can't wait to see the pretty little foals either! :x Feel free to show them off when you do use them!
Oh thanks @bluchrystals! And that would work with the Phantom genes as well? So in the future whenever they are in the lab again i could add one of their Phantoms they had missed?Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!
