Is anyone else trying to create a line of horses with a very specific genetic makeup? I'm trying to get to a point where my horses are all silver black splash appaloosa (without inbreeding). This is one of mine:
SlvrBlkSplshAppMare1 -
I used to breed only champagnes! Silver black appaloosas are gorgeous!
-
I only breed Black Livers on my main, Forest server account. The variety is AMAZING!
ConfluenceStable- HJ1 ID#235298 * ConfluenceFarms- HJ2 ID#1998 * ConfluenceRanch- HJ3 ID#15 -
I used to have many specific lines but now have two "kitchen sink" fantasy lines plus one "EE aa StySty sasa PP" riding pony line. Much simpler and I still get all the pretty colors!Bluegrass #143376 * Specializing in Iced Axiom (ExPro Cobs) and Iced Phantoms (PF Riding Ponies)

I would love to have a specific color line like that, but alas, I dabble too much in so many different genes so my lines just mash together.
-
I’m breeding: Black Splash Tobiano, Black Appaloosas & Homozygous Snowflakes. Those are my 3 Main lines on here. I also love to have Fun sometimes and I’ll breed 2 of my favorite Herd Helpers together. Like Vault of Stars to Peach Ice Cream.

Hey since you mentioned black appaloosa I have a noob question:
Talvisota
I like this horse but I'm not sure how common it is and she has low PT if it's common I will spay her but if it will be difficult to get another I'll prob breed her with my exceptional producer.Licensed for:
All Axiom
Ice: 9, 13, 15-19
RR: wt, PBC, PBW, Nac
PHAN: dmsp, lace, sku, hrt, shm, jelly, pmk, bird, crit sun star.
Other: everything but SPM and jewel -
@boredaf- Number one PT has nothing to do with breeding ability she just won't be great in shows and so won't likely be a great show horse. Secondly basic black apps are relatively common and she is likely Yellow papered, so breeding her to a C papered stud would be a better chance at an intact foal instead of to an Exceptional Producer. BA testing her would also give you a much better chance at getting passing foals from her, unless your just breeding for color which is ok too! Hope this helped! :)Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

I'd say that black appaloosas are pretty common in the game. Here's a search of the intact horses with that color. There are 8,278 of them. Not all of them are small spot leopard appys, though, and most of the oldest ones have varnished out to white or almost all white.

@boredaf
9.7 isn't a bad PT for a foundation, but as said it has no relation to breeding ability anyway. She's untested though, if you run breeding advice it would be a good start to see if she's worth breeding. Breeding to an exceptional is good if you want to bring up the quality of her foals, but you likely get more spayed and gelded tooPost edited by Kintara at 2021-04-29 03:21:38 -
They actually are linked these days.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

^^^ wait what?! So will an ExPro horse with a higher PT be a better breeder than an ExPro with a lower PT?
Or is that trend only apparent for random foundations/lined horses?
Either way - this is news! :-B -
^^^What Lady said.
Just when Tali beat it into my head that PT and Breeding ability are not linked so I didn't have to worry about my foundation Ex Pro horses with CRAPTASTIC PT. So now the big question is do I need to cull them all? -
But wait ; There are several Exceptional Producers that have lousy PT scores, so how is this going to work?
-
The change was made last year sometime. Showing and breeding ability are now closely linked on foundation creates. Herd Helpers can change ability after the fact though.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Does that also apply to lined horses, or just foundations?I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

Ammit did specify foundation creates, soo my guess would be no impact to lined? Also if HH changes ability AFTER the fact then I would guess this has no impact on any of the breeding ability mod HH (i.e. ExPerf/ExPro/Top Producers/Perfect Foundies etc). Just for random creates or non ability boosting HH like the color specific ones
Could definitely be wrong, but that's how I interpreted it!Post edited by LadyhawkeStables at 2021-04-30 07:51:44Thanked by 1Nightphoenix -
...wow I did not mean to kick that off heh.
@horseangel thanks, at the time I asked my expro was actually my only stud lol I wasn't choosing him for any specific reason but this was very informative and will be extremely helpful for future decisions now that I've bought/been gifted some papered horses.
Edit: So to clarify you can breed foundation horses based on PT. Lined horses do NOT pass PT on as a genetic trait. However a lined horse with a higher breeding ability will (barring bad luck rolls) produce a horse with higher PT.
Did I get it right? and what if anything determines the breeding ability of a foal?Post edited by boredaf at 2021-05-04 16:24:46Licensed for:

Your welcome @boredaf! The PT part sounds right to me, I was not aware of the change that Breeding & PT scores are Now related! I am not 100% sure on breeding ability of foals but I'm sure that an older player would be able to help explain it for you!Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! Cool and sorry I was directing that last part to the thread at large. I'm aware you don't exist to be my walking encyclopedia. Though you make a very good one.Licensed for:

I have actually only been here for going on 2 years some other players have been playing for over 10 years, which is WAY longer than me but I am happy to help where I can! Questions are what help you learn more about how the game works. :DPost edited by HorseAngel at 2021-05-05 16:21:21Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

Yes, as lined horses with good breeding ability do produce better PT foals on average. But remember, there are ranges of breeding ability. Sometimes they produce at the best of their ability, and other times, not so good.
