GP, KP, DP?
-
Can someone please explain what DP, KP, and GP genes are? People talk about them on here and I'm very confused as to what they mean and look like :)
-
These are three untestable genes that Ammit has introduced into the game. KP is a Fantasy Gene; GP is hypothetical, but is based on a real-life phenomenon. DP is, I believe, based on real-life genetics.
GP is the first of the three introduced into the game. It stands for Gulastra Plume, a gene that causes bay horses to have tails that are white from the bottom up. It first showed up in the offspring of an Arabian stallion named Gulastra. You can Google Gulastra to find out more.
In the game, horses will display this coloration when they are Bay, Buckskin, or Brown and carry homozygous GP, having inherited it from both parents. Heterozygous GP shows up in Buckskins by a slight graying of the tail and a couple of whitish flecks in the mane.
Here are a couple of examples of homozygous GP.
KP was the next gene introduced into the game. It stands for Kit Promoter. For KP to show up on a horse, that horse has to have two mutated Kit alleles (roan, tobiano, sabino, or any of the dominant whites). The KP must be homozygous. The result is cloudy patches that appear randomly on the horse.
Here are a couple of examples.
DP stands for Dense Pheomelanin. It causes red pigment to build up in hair cells, making them darker than normal. It is one of two darkening genes. The other is Sooty (Ssty). When a chestnut horse has three darkening alleles--2 Ssty and 1 DP or 1 Ssty and 2 DP--it is termed a Liver Chestnut. Palominos with 3 darkening alleles are Chocolate Palominos. Bay horses and Black horses can carry DP. It will affect the red hairs of the Bay horses, but there isn't a special name for those, so there isn't an easy way to identify them. On black horses, which have no red hairs, it is, of course hidden, and has no effect on horse color.
A chestnut horse with four darkening alleles, homozygous for both Ssty and DP will appear black.
Some examples.

One thing SandyCreek didn't mention is that GP and KP are only available in the GMT lab and both cost 5 GMTs per allele, so represent a moderate investment of either real or game money into the foundation line. DP is creatable, but somewhat rare (I usually, but not always, get at least one from 40 creates out of one of the dark chestnut HHs), and hard to spot on some colors. There are only 3 rank special herd helpers that give it: Freaky Friday, Dark Chocolate and Kings Ransom otherwise it is a random bonus gene. It was recently added to the GMT lab for 10 GMTs per allele.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

Also, don't confuse GP with a Splash tail. Splash will cause white on the bottom of tails too. Lots of the new people have thought they are GP, when they are not. Your best way to determine GP is to either purchase it yourself, or get a egg/straw or foal from a reputable seller. Was Rebecca Iavelli on the old forum

Yes to both questions

You guys have all been so helpful, but I'm still having some trouble recognising DP.
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3891309 This guy says he has it. He is Ssty Ssty, so he also has to have 1 copy of DP, right?
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=4324690 Also, I was thinking that this one could have it too, but she's only SstyS, so she'd need 2 copies of DP?
Sorry for all the questions... But thanks for any help in advance. :)Post edited by jozylee at 2016-10-10 20:10:09 -
The first horse has two copies of DP. You can tell because he looks black but the colour test labels him as liver.
The second horse likely does not have DP at all. Neither of his parents show signs of carrying it, and even if they did have it, it'd be hidden because they both have E, which hides DP.Post edited by Alianne at 2016-10-10 21:53:34I breed Drafts and star horses :D

Ok thank you so much @alianne :)

I agree, the 2nd horse is very unlikely to have DP.

Falling Skies is so dark because she is brown (Ata), no DP needed.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.
