Where to invest HB?
-
When the auctions go through tonight I'll have a nice chunk of HB. I see three choices as to how invest it.
1) as many IV as possible and get basic quick so I can paper. use any leftover for breeding
2) one IV use the rest to build show herd (and some 2g mares cause I completely forgot to get 2gs for my non nexus line) save IV slowly.
3) focus entirely on show herd and wait to worry about papering until I have 1k+ daily
TLDR: should I prioritize basic for papers, show herd or split the difference.Post edited by boredaf at 2021-05-11 12:17:16Licensed for:

I'm going to tell you as hard as it is...focus solely on your show herd. You can build everything slowly but your show herd is the backbone of your stable. Without a good base it kinda falls down around your ears after a while.

Actually that's what I was hoping you'd say :) I was just concerned that I was shooting myself in the foot by not not checking paper levels. I have a couple of PF mares though so that should help I understand that they're basically yellows.
Edit for clarity: Like I wouldn't be able to get good show horses without papering their parents.Post edited by boredaf at 2021-05-11 12:32:57Licensed for:

OK , so almost all foundations will be yellow papered ; Unless they specifically call out "exception" or are a few Rank Specials. If you are building your show herd from Yellow/C I personally would keep as many as possible until you are earning about 5k a day ; the only reason at this stage to buy IV's is for an extra barn. Once you hit 5k a day you ll be able to get the Basic Upgrade pretty quickly. just remember to train and show your horses Every.Single.Week.
Neuter almost everything. you only need 1 stud per 50 mares so snip those 2g boys and let them start earning you money -
Perfect Foundations have 100% showing ability, that is, their PT is 9.9, the top for regular creates. They have 100% breeding ability, the very top of the C/Yellow paper level. They are also 100% consistent; they have the same score each time they are shown in a week.
If I'm remembering correctly, they will add 3 points to their show score each time they are trained, so once they get out of Level 1, they will spend about 3 weeks in each Level/Grade. The first week in a new Level/Grade, they will be near the bottom of their class; the 2nd week they will place in the middle of the class; the 3rd week they will be near the top of the class, unless they jump up into the next Level/Grade.
The other benefit to their being perfectly consistent is that consistent horse are more likely to produce consistent foals. Inconsistent horses are more likely to produce inconsistent foals. -
I would prioritize getting a Basic membership. It gives you more barn and pasture space, and it makes improving your show herd much easier. Training happens automatically, and you can enter whole barns in shows with one click.

@annis Ok thanks I picked out a a 2g stud who comp'd superior and I have one for my nexus line everything else is snipped. I have six foundy mares and about as many 2g fillies. After the auction I'll have 20ish show ponies I plan to keep my main barn only for show horses, filies and my two colts go in the welcome pack barn. mares and main stud in the pasture. I figure that will force me to keep the ratio good.
There are two colts that I've broken this rule for I picked them up cheap in auction and they have chocolate and I/8 respectively. I'm just going to get those genes on some mares and then snip them.Licensed for:

One thing to maybe consider as well is that the Basic Upgrade also gives you 12,500hbs every week, which can be a big help with building up your show herd and buying new barn space for them.
I would definitely agree that it is best to focus on building up a good showing bonus before getting too involved in breeding, but going for the Upgrade first might help accelerate things.ID #265959 | He/him | Breeding Black Satin, Liver, and Grullo Arcturus Horses | Licenses: Mushroom, DFP2, Onyx, Axiom Blue and Green
