Today is my Ruby Wedding Anniversary, that's 40 years of marriage. :x

To celebrate my happy event I am running a competition to win a horse. I had planned to do this anyway, but to my delight I got a Conversation Hearts HH today. :)

WV Ruby Wedding

I will spend up to 40 GMTs on this horse to the winner's specification, and in keeping with the occasion, sell it for 40 hbs. Furthermore, I will give 40,000 hbs to two runners up.

All you have to do is tell me something on the theme of either 'Ruby' or '40'. It can be something personal to you, something interesting, real or imaginary, be creative! Please keep your entry to a few lines. I will close the competition at midnight game time on Wednesday 12th and pick a winner on Thursday 13th May.

Ruby was a filly I was helping start this spring and she was very curious, she decided to go sniff a riding helmet that was sitting on a saddle. She nibbled on the strap then jumped backwards and the helmet came with her. She went racing around the arena, while the helmet whipped around smacking her in the head and neck, and she would not let go of the strap. Finally she stood still for a moment and the breeder walked up carefully and pulled the helmet strap out of her mouth. She snorted and we burst out laughing. She was no worse for her helmet ordeal.

Well, I know a few interesting fun facts about rubies that relate to this if you would like to know? Rock hounding is a hobby of mine lol.

Fact 1#. The word ruby comes from the Latin "rubens", which means red and they come in many different shades. There red hue comes from traces of the mineral Chromium. Fact 2#. A ruby is the birthstone for July and as such thought to be a healing stone. It is a traditional gift for those celebrating their 15th or 40th anniversaries because rubies are said to have the power to attract and maintain love! Also recognized as a talisman to ensure harmony, guard against sorrow and bring success! Fact 3#. Rubies are extremely strong, a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. Second only to Diamonds! Fact 4#. Almost all rubies have flaws, one without imperfections are exceptionally rare because of the mineral that makes them. In fact, that is one way a ruby is authenticated- if the stone has no flaws then it is likely not a real ruby! The finest rubies are mined in Myanmar and so are known as "Burmese Rubies".

A ruby is something I would give to my family to show them how much I love them. But not just one, 40 rubies, so that they could all have many. But even forty rubies wouldn't come close in worth to me as my family does. My family is priceless to me, and they are each worth more than a million rubies.

Ruby- july’s Birthstone. The birthstone Of the most beautiful woman ever. My mother. 1966 is the year she was born, and will be 55 soon i am 22. My mother has been my rock, my best friend, and the strongest woman I know. I have been her wing man (or woman in this case) for so long now it’s not even funny. My mother is funny, loving and caring, but strict. But by her being strict she raised me to be a better woman. I owe her so much. I love you momma.

Ruby was the name of my Mother-in-law, Ruby Evelyn. My oldest daughter carries her middle name of Evelyn. Her name is Margaret after my Grandmother, Jean, after my mom and my middle name, Evelyn, after her other grandmother, my MiL. My daughter has a really long name...and nobody felt left out! ;)

Fun fact, rubies are sapphires but red! They're also emeralds :D They have the same chemical properties of a sapphire just different elements change their colors. Sapphires are blue because of iron but I'm not sure of the other gems chemical makeup. All the while, they're gorgeous gemstones.

Rubies are red, sapphires are blue, your ruby anniversary is very important it's true!
Congratulations! I just love seeing people stay together for so long! My gramma and Grandpa have been married for over 50 years! I hope that when the time comes you have a great 50th anniversary like they did!

I'll do some fun facts about the number 40 - It is an even number and considered "Semi-Perfect" because some of its divisors also add up to it (e.g. 2+ 8+10 + 20). As a Roman Numeral it is written as XL, which is a "big" deal! Spelled out in English, "Forty" has all of its letters in alphabetical order.
