Gift Exchange ...a learning experience
  • this gift exchange definitely forces you to step out of your 'breed project' comfort zone. My exchange person's requests are almost alien to me...took me 20 minutes just to figure out the new jargon. And I have no knowledge of the specifics they requested...putting on my research helmet and getting to work. I'm not complaining, it's just a whole new learning experience and I'm looking forward to it.

    Anyone else experiencing this?
    Projects:
    - Lined KitM (black base lines) & (chestnut base lines)
    - Leopard Appaloosas
    - Overall PT development/increased show potential
  • This is one of the reasons I love the exchange - shopping with someone else in mind. I look at horses and herd helpers differently.

  • I'm not participating in the gift exchange this time around, but for secret santa last christmas, I was in the same boat. I'm used to creating blingy foundations with alot of markings, alot of different genes, and my giftee prefered simple horses. I didn't think it'd be a challenge but it totally was!
    Previously known as "lethalximpulse".
  • @pitchblackdam38 If you would like any help at all I would be more then happy to give you a hand.

  • If you need any help with the 'jargon', the older players are always happy to help! ;)
  • Like my biggest issue I'm facing is wanting superior to sire or dam... that's hard unless the breeder/owner includes that in the horse's notes or I check after I buy them. Would that be a deal breaker? Also I'm big on PT and STAR/Gold, so doing the generational thing is like another world. Does the PT matter at all?

Any easy tips for checking lines? I don't want to give them crap.

  • PT matters for show horses but for breeding what really matters is being superior. If the breeder only keeps superior horses then generation does matter because a G4 should always be better than a G2. If they're like me and they'll keep aga horses if they're really pretty then you could actually have a G4 that's similar breeding quality to a G2.
  • It all depends on the player. If the horses is not superior to its parents but "as good as" and has all the genes they love on them then sometimes that's acceptable, however if the player is like me then if it's not superior then it's a show pony.

If it would be easier and you would like to. Just sent me a PM with your giftees likes and dislikes and I'll see if I have anything in my barn that can help. Only if you want to though. ;)

  • I second GoldenSpur ; and my OCD makes me put "SUP" at the end of every tested stud and the Dr comment in the field even tho i ONLY keep SUP studs ( with very very very few exceptions ) and geld everything else lol

  • I put it in the horse's notes, superior or equal to sire/dam. That way, I don't accidentally waste hbs re-testing a horse!
