Help with Mushroom!!
-
Can someone inform me about mushroom? I can't seem to find much info anywhere, or I'm not looking in the right places. I'd like to know more about it!
I'd like to get it today since it's on RGS but before I spend RL$ on it, I'd like to know that I'm putting it on the right horses
Any info is welcome, thank you so much! -
I don't breed for mushroom myself so there will be other people that can give you better info on this, but mushroom only shows on horses with red pigment (meaning they have to be ee, no E? as E stands for black pigment is dominant over e (red pigment). It only shows when a horse is homozygous for mushroom.
I know it makes for extra nice liver horses!
I've pulled up a homo mushroom search for you so you can see some examples (i selected no appaloosa as they turn out white when they're older):
https://www.huntandjump.com/adv_search.php?runsearch=go&91=2&40=2&128=0&129=0
You can see on the first horse that he is a deeper, intenser and darker liver.
You can see on the second horse that nothing is happening because it has Ee, meaning it has black pigment instead of red.
This is a great example of what mushroom does with a DP liver:

It gets a bit brownish and I also believe its mane are more whitish instead of flaxen yellow because of the mushroom, but I'm not 100% sure if mushroom works like that.
Hope this helps a bit! If you put it on a red based horse (ee) you're good to go. And you can look through the search to find other mushrooms that you like :)Post edited by MasterStablesMS at 2021-06-04 10:01:58HJ1 160524

It's a gene that is affects red based pigment in horses and will dilute the red. It pops really well on liver based horses! It is a recessive gene so you will need two copies to show. Here's an article I found with some more info on the irl gene.

This is a liver mare I own who has the mushroom to give you a visual

It's worth it - it makes DP chestnuts and palominos SO stunning.
