Foals usually become yearlings half-way through the month they were created, if they were "born" in the beginning of the month. Since each game year lasts one real-life month, and we're already past the half-way point, I expect that your foals will keep that "age" until they turn 2 at the beginning of August.

You could try rerolling their pictures (the little circular arrows just below the horse image). That might correct the "age" designation to yearling, but I'm not totally sure about that. I doesn't cost anything to try.

I just did a test, breeding a stallion to a mare, then rerolling the resulting foal a couple of times. It remained a foal, so that idea didn't work.
