Training and showing
-
I know that the performance and consistency have a factor in training and showing. I was curious to how training increases level and how often does this occur? ie if I train every week, does the level increase monthly?
Also in creating foals. Is it better to start off as yearlings, vs 4 year olds with horses that arent pointed?Post edited by Ambervalleyarabians at 2021-08-30 06:15:46 -
Training helps your horse show better ; which in turn has them level up in shows. It depends on the horse as to how fast he goes through the levels.
I create as yearlings or 2 yo so i can adjust if needed prior to breeding age ; but i know others create older so they can use them right away -
It's been a long time since I was keeping track of how training affects a horse's show score, but I remember these facts, which I think are probably the same.
Perfect Foundations (PT score 9.9) add three points to their show score with every training. Their starting scores will be somewhere between 1 and 9, usually toward the higher end of that range. They will start in level 1 Local, perhaps with a starting score of 8, just as an example. After their first training, their score will be 11, which puts them into Level 2 Local. The range of show scores in the Level 1 Grades is quite small.
Beyond Level 1 through Level 5 World , there is a range of 10 points for each Level/Grade. So, this perfect foundation horse would have a show score of 14 after it's next training, remaining in 2L, then a score of 17 the next week, remaining in 2L, and a score of 20 the following week, when it would level up into 2 Regional.
Following this hypothetical horse, it's score would increase to 23, then 26, then 29 while it would remain in Level 2 Local. The following week its score would be 32, and it would Level up into 2 National. And so it would progress, spending about 3 weeks in each Level/Grade.
Once you get to Level 6, the number of points in each Grade increases, and I no longer remember the specifics of that progression.
If anyone else has different memories of the specifics of this example, please correct me.
Here is a chart which I made to help me keep things straight. As I have mentioned, starting with Level 6 Local, the number of points for each Grade changes.
level grade score
• 1 L 2
• 1 R 5
• 1 N 8
• 1 W 10
• 2 L 20
• 2 R 30
• 2 N 40
• 2 W 50
• 3 L 60
• 3 R 70
• 3 N 80
• 3 W 90
• 4 L 100
• 4 R 110
• 4 N 120
• 4 W 130
• 5 L 140
• 5 R 150
• 5 N 160
• 5 W 170

I just always create everything as a foal because in my experience it adds a significant number of points as time goes on. I already have plenty of horses to breed, so I can wait!I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

I rarely create horses for anything other than breeding, and usually I need them to be breeding age. So that’s the age I make them. Special creates I make as foals, unless I want to breed them asap. If I am making my 1k show pony from the newsletter I make them a foal. Mostly I play it by ear and make what I need.
Personally I think 2g horses make the best show horses. So when I need extra show horses, I make or buy foundation mares breed them to a foundation stud and snip all of the babies. Auction the parents and throw the babies in a barn.
