Blonde moment when it comes to generations
-
:)) well for the longest time I always labeled my horses by what I thought stood for "generation" so I labeled 2g , 3g , 4g for a few years not realizing the second part is suppose to be paper level. So instead my second gen red papered mare should have been 2R 8-} . The amount of confusion I probably caused haha :)) noticing another players horse I questioned why certain horses had different labels then it dawned on me :)) . Has anyone else done something silly like this before?
-
ohh yeah , and i still do it ; for me I dont keep a colt if he papers below A even on 2g, star by 5th gen; Mares are red 1 and 2g ; 3g-5g must be blue or better ; 6g must be gold
-
I’ve never put paper level in the name? A few years ago I did it as you did 1g, 2g, 3g. Now I put BL1, BL2, BL3. Which stands for ‘BL’aze and then generation. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone label them with paper level and generation?Thanked by 1Nightphoenix

Everyone has their own preferences, as long as you know what you mean you’re totally fine!
I personally label mine as gen + paper level, foundations start with FND and everything else starts with 2G etc. Then I add paper levels so I end up with stuff like FNDR, 2GBlu, 3GSt, etc.
4GBlu Mushroom Gathering
And then I have a marker for my specific Little Red Riding Ponies line, so their names come out like this girl here:
2GR LRRP Storybook
Anything with their generations not quite even gets a Q added somewhere in their prefix, for “questionable”. Just because it makes me smile. :))
4GGQ Coffee Deity
And then I have some various prefixes for specific horses floating around to remind me of something about them.
A little complicated, but I know how it works and so it’s fine. :)Post edited by erisna at 2021-09-08 16:15:53I mostly play on mobile so I can't usually see signatures!
Breeding Pearl Warmbloods, Little Red Riding Ponies, and... whatever else suits my fancy lol. -
I meant to add to my comment that you can and should label things however you want. That’s my favorite part about HaJ, theres no right or wrong way to do things. Label things however it makes you happy! Because I’m not sure about everyone else but I always change the labels on horses I buy to my own

Haha ok so I wasn't the only one! :-)) I feel like adding the paper level to the name really helps with sorting pastures! I will probably start doing the gen number with paper from now on. I feel like a few years back going by generation was the thing .
-
I've never labelled paper level, just G2, or KT2 for generation2 etc. Sometimes I might add a paper level if it is significant, but not usually
-
I do gen and paper level to help keep myself organized! But because I'm especially prone to dumb moments, I use C/B/A/S even on the mares for consistency so I don't confuse myself with two sets of letters. :-)) (It's also using B for Blue that would get me, not gonna lie.)

I name mine a few different ways depending on what they are;
Bootstrap
DF genBS ID#
Main Line
gen/sireinitial/Sup or PT (depending on intact)/ID#
At 4th gen I switch to
DFM (Dark Frost Mainline) gen/ID#HJ1: 266615

Mine are by generation. I can easily see the paper level without even clicking on the horse, so putting paper level in the name seems a bit redundant to me, but everybody has their own system :)Post edited by Nightphoenix at 2021-09-09 10:30:00I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!Thanked by 1Kintara

I have generational tattoos so I just use those as a filter in the search when looking through my lined stock :) I don’t have any yet but I’ll probably stop tracking generations with my horses once they’re fully lined unless I really see a difference on crossing a 5g with a 5g vs a 5g with a 7g, etc. For me it’s just a little too much hassle.Post edited by FallenFarms at 2021-09-09 11:13:12Fallen Farms - Grigorian Warmbloods - ID 264430

@FallenFarms Completely agree here! I track the sire line up to 4th gen, then I only track the generation for further breeding. Since I name them all anyway it's no extra hassle to add the gen (for me), but any additional tracking becomes a bit useless as I extensively test.HJ1: 266615

I label my breeding stock with their respective generations, plus S for the girls.
For example FS Imratahil 1 if a stallion. If a mare, then FS Imrahatila 2 S if she is 2nd generation. The S denotes that she is superior to her dam. I require all my breeding stock to test superior.
My show horses get FSH1, FSH2, etc. -
I add gen and paper level as well as which line they go into because I've got so many going on! :)) My prefixes are LM for LusterMist, BG for BluGroven, DD for DarkDiamonds(used to be LVR),SG for StoneGolum,CBsh for CryBaby show(snips only but keeps them from going to auction), and BS for BootStrap. This girl is 6th gen and you can see how everything is posted in her prefix. Her Name is pulled from the previous gens.
