Consistently-Selling Horses
  • I would like to pick older players' brains. I want to start a more selling-oriented breeding line, but I am not sure what my focus should be. Are there certain kinds of horses that sell better than others? From my limited experience, riding horses seem the most popular. Are certain colors favored? I realize no one can speak for what every single player wants, but I do not think all generalizations are useless.

  • I've noticed that DP always sells well. Liver slightly more than brown/bay based.

  • Or you can go the "wacky" route ; watch to see what others are ISO ; like I Always need xp Blue Roan Appies and / or Tobiano's ; i do mean always they are unicorns. Once you see what people are always searching for then you know you have a consisent buyer ; they might not pay the "premium" prices but they will buy from you each and every time you have one

  • That's a tough question and honestly, everyone breeds horses to their liking. The most popular genes seem to be DP, Satin, S+, P+, and fancy white genes. But it depends on the player. Quality is often just as important as color if not more so. I personally rarely buy an unevenly bred horse. I also have paper requirements for each generation.

If you plan on making a lot of $$ selling horses, it's not the best way to make money long term. Some players can sell their horses for thousands, but those horses have rare genes, and often come from players who have a reputation of being extremely selective of their breeding stock. Also, the buyer plays a big part, old players can dump a lot of money on a horse without a second thought. But what is to stop them from breeding a similar horse in the first place?

I sell more rank special foundations horses than any horses I breed, and I breed for most of the colors I mentioned.
  • Thank you for all your input. I was not planning on having breeding be my main income, but I thought it could be a nice thing on the side. Is there a way to see what people buy, or should I look on ISO threads?

  • I would look at the ISO threads both for selling and buying horses. Also, look at the breeding ads to see which ones are being used. Another idea would be to look at the last auction’s sales.
  • Something else to also look at is the "Your Herd Helper" sheet ; it tells you how many of xxx Horse is in the game , how many you personally have ; if the number is low and its a rank6 or Rank Special ; the cost generally goes up, sometimes Way Up.

  • Personally I never spend more than 25k for a rank 6 or Rank Special horse. It's because they are just that, DHH creates. They're not rare enough to warrant a big price. I can just reroll DHHs until I get the ones I want or just wait for Ammit to give us the opportunity to make creates from certain DHHs.
