Comparison Testing ExPer Foundations?
-
I haven't started breeding my own horses yet, but I've begun collecting horses that I'd like to breed in the future.
I'm planning on breeding only Exceptionally Perfect foundations to start. I was wondering if comparison testing between two Exceptionally Perfect foundations was worth it? Do they have hidden stats that can vary that I don't know about, or will they always have the same breeding ability?
And kind of a second question on top of that: does it matter if I don't PT and paper my Exceptionally Perfect breeding horses? I'm saving money for a big show barn, so I haven't been spending the money to PT them, but I didn't know if not papering them will effect their foals in some way? Like not allow the foals to be papered or something?
Thanks for your help! -
Not papering horses will not affect their foals. You will still be able to paper them regardless of the parents’ status. All ExPer horses are Red papered with a 10.4PT. All ExPros are Red with variable PTs. All Perfect Foundations will be Yellow with a 9.9PT.
It’s my understanding that all ExPer horses are the same level. You comparison test ExPer against ExPer and they’ll test AGA each other. If you use a breeding boost on one and not the other, then the results would change but otherwise they’re the same. Comparison testing comes in handy with lined horses or regular creates who would have some variability in their abilities. I wouldn’t waste it on ExPers, especially if you’re saving up for a barn.Post edited by FallenFarms at 2021-09-13 11:10:25Fallen Farms - Grigorian Warmbloods - ID 264430

Perfect, thank you!

I personally don't start comparison testing until 3rd gen since I require all 2nd gens to be A/blue papered. This makes them automatically superior to their mostly ex pro/perf parents, since it is possible to get a B/red foal that tests superior to an ex perf.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

I actually had a B papered colt test AGA his C papered sire this year. So does achieving the next level of papering automatically mean the foal is superior?Fallen Farms - Grigorian Warmbloods - ID 264430

The About As Good As rating covers a range of breeding ability that goes from not quite as good as, through just as good as, to slightly better than. If the foal papers higher than its parent of the same gender, then the About As Good As rating means that the foal falls on the slightly better than end of the range. If it papers the same, you can expect that is slightly worse than or exactly the same as its parent

If a parent can produce a foal that papers the same but comparison tests superior, then any foal from that parent (or a horse known to be of the same breeding ability, which all ex perfs are) which papers higher, would have to compare as superior.
C papered perfect foundations are only a +1 breeding boost away from B papering, so it is entirely possible for one to sire a B papered foal that comparison tests AGA. I am fairly sure that it takes a full +5 boost to get an ex perf up to A papered.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

It may only take a 1% boost to get a perfect foundation to B paper, but it takes a 5% boost to get a perfect foundation to ExPer/ExPro level. It takes a 5% boost to get a ExPer/ExPro horse to A/Blue paper level. I have a couple A/Blue foundation horses in my barn if someone wants an example.
I also wouldn’t worry about papering, comparison testing, or PT testing your foundation horses if they come from a ExPer/ExPro herd helper. There is no need, and saving for a larger barn is much better for you in the long run. If in a couple months you have extra funds and want to Paper and PT all of your foundation horses you can, but it’s personal preference and doesn’t affect anything. -
Does it mean that I can boost Expro or Experf and they remain B-papered ? Unless I boost 5% ?
