If the brown allele is going to be gone...
  • What should we focus on creating and gene modifying if we want to keep breeding a line of browns? I'm thinking about turning my silver black chinchilla into a silver brown chocolate chinchilla, but I don't want to waste GMTs on brown alleles if they're going to be removed from the game.
  • When it comes time that we will be making that change we will be handling it carefully. Any horse you make brown now will be brown then. I think there is no reason to worry about it.

  • @Ammit Thanks so much for clearing that up for me! :)
  • Did I miss something? Where is the removal of the brown gene being talked about?
    Thanked by 1Nightphoenix
  • @Blaze5115 I’m completely lost as well…
I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!
  • @Blaze5115 @Nightphoenix It was discussed in a comment thread on the facebook group under the post where we voted on the new breeder's clubs. Someone asked why brown couldn't have its own club and it was because the At allele has been proven to be a myth, not based on real genetics, so it's going to be removed from the game. We'll still have brown phenotype horses, but it won't be because of a brown allele in the genotype.
    Thanked by 1Nightphoenix
  • How would we have brown phenotype then?
  • @Forestshadow I don't know, I've been asking the same thing since I first heard about this. I'm guessing now that it hasn't been decided exactly how the new brown will work. If I have it right, before the introduction of the brown allele, brown horses were just hom sooty bays. Maybe that will still have something to do with it?
  • Yes. Back in the day before T was introduced, a Brown was just a Bay with hom sooty. I’d assume it’ll be something similar! :)

  • I somehow missed all of this. Guess I will stop breeding for browns. ☹️ But I guess that makes room for new experiments.
  • I hope we have some way of keeping it :( all of my lines that I've put some work into are browns . They're my favorite. If it does go to homozygous Sooty bay then I should be fine as mine are mostly all hom for Sooty.
