How Do I Know When to Buy or Sell?
-
I am feeling out this game yet, and I am trying to figure out what makes the sense for good cash flow. Do I fill up my barns with autobred pasture foals, or should I make pointed creates as long as I can? I know generally what color and body shape I want, but I find a variety of horses good-looking, and I have trouble parting with anything I have bred or made. Should I put horses up for sale or auction?Game number 273531

Show horses are your money makers! The ideal ratio is, I believe, 3 show horses to every 1 breeding horse. Pointed creates are magic at helping you get on your feet. I’d also look at the Foundation Rescue (ID 13) and snatch potential show horses up there!
The money the show horses help bring in through winnings as well as points (thus boosting your daily bonus) will help fund your breeding lines :) Some more experienced players can chime in and give their more detailed two cents as well!Fallen Farms - Grigorian Warmbloods - ID 264430

Is it possible to figure out if a Foundation Rescue horse has good showing potential?
Should I spay or geld all my show horses for that training boost?Game number 273531

You should look at their PT if they’ve been tested for it but honestly all Foundation Rescue horses were “saved” from the auction because of their showing/breeding potential. Most of the ones I’ve pulled from there have been at least 9.0PT.
I’d also look out for Exceptional/Great Show Horse DHHs here in the forum. Those are guaranteed to be good showers.
As for spelding, that’s honestly personal preference. I alter all of them so I don’t accidentally breed anyone. Some people leave certain ones intact so they can produce more showers and have “bootstrap” lines.Fallen Farms - Grigorian Warmbloods - ID 264430

The Foundation Rescue only takes horses that are at least 9.90 on the PT score, so they will all be fine as show horses.
Redundant information as FallenFarms posted before I finished. Apologies!Post edited by Mensie at 2021-09-22 13:37:08Bluegrass 272432 | Forest 54250 | Mesa 9056 -
All information is good information! It actually improves upon mine by clarifying all the rescues are at least a 9.9! Thanks Menstrosity :DFallen Farms - Grigorian Warmbloods - ID 264430

Neutered show horses get a bonus for training and showing ; generally they get through the classes a little quicker. The Stallions you use can be pulled from pasture to show as well except for " breeding day" Pastured mares give the Foal the bonus bump ; they do not show, they Do however train every week.

There are so many ways to play the game that it really doesn't matter. You get to decide how you want to play the game. If I was you, I would try to get a good nest egg saved up before you start a breeding line, and have bought several barns dedicated to show horses. That will give you the best head start in the long run. Because ones you hit the point where you are no longer able to make pointed creates, money can get tight until your show herd picks up enough to make running your barn easy.
There are two ways for you to make money easily right now. One; create and sell pointed creates. The second is slightly more complicated. Create 4yr old mares throw them into your pasture without doing Any testing, create a stallion breed them then throw mares, foals and stallion in the auction without any testing besides BA. Fill all the open stalls you have by doing this wait for the auction, then repeat. I’ve used this method to buy several barns and that’s what I would recommend you do. You could also sell a few of the pointed mares for a low price 1/3 their payout, or even less, to free up some space so you can create and breed more horses for auction. Each foal that goes into the auction will make you 1,500 and if you auction the parents as well it won’t put you in the hole. But the most important thing is to not do any testing on any of the horses until you are putting them in auction and only do BA on them when you put them up; otherwise you won’t be making as much or anything doing this.
However it is up to you on how you want to play the game. This is what I have done in the past when I made/make new accounts. If you want to keep everything you create and breed go for it. -
The best horses to have in your barn at the moment, is younger horses (not foals) that have a decent amount of points. They will give you income. So new creates with more than 300 points are a great start. As you get more barn space you can keep your spays and gelded foals as future show horses, but while on limited space, just keep the best money producers, and your breeding horses

@Silverstar, I do the same thing, and I've funded my first purchased barn this way. I make sure I have at least 150,000hb worth of horses in every auction, and I'm growing my income slowly but surely.

Thanks especially to @Silverstar. I will be trying it out in the next breeding season. I am low on HB, so mass pasture breeding is what I will do at the moment. I've put a few of the horses I like less in the auction, so we'll see what happens. Some of the others I will mass breed next month/year before selling. Thank you for letting me pick your brains.Game number 273531

You are welcome. I know starting a new account can be difficult, I have made several new accounts over the years and those were the best ways to make hbs reliably until a show herd can take care of everything. As for picking our brains any time. :)
