How does one advance a bootstrap line?
  • I just keep breeding my bs stud to foundies for 11-11.50 foals but I don't know what to do next?
    Licensed for:
    All Axiom
    Ice: 9, 13, 15-19
    RR: wt, PBC, PBW, Nac
PHAN: dmsp, lace, sku, hrt, shm, jelly, pmk, bird, crit sun star.
Other: everything but SPM and jewel
  • Take the high PT fillies and breed back to the stud. Hmm, at least that's how I do it. :-??
  • @bluchrystals I thought PT scores didn't effect breeding results?

  • What exactly is a bootstrap??
  • A high quality horse bred to a lower quality horse to quickly produce higher level show horses than you can breed evenly.

  • Get the best stallion you can, then boost him, then breed him to all your mixed pedigree or bootstrap mares!

  • ah I see, but won't those bootstrapped mares be terrible breeding quality and thus produce low pt foals? as I understand paper=foalpt?

  • I started with 10PT and have broken 14 PT just lately. Admittedly, it's not with many 14's, but I'm also not necessarily breeding for quality, just for a high PT show herd.
  • Well as much as I'd like to understand the mechanic behind it I guess it's just enough to know it works.

Thank you both for the info :) I'll keep some mares from this cycle intact

  • Just remember, high PTs take time to reach their best potential. Lower PTs get there quicker, so the best show herds tend to have a mix of both.
