What genes should I change for less white?
-
Hey everyone,
I have my first bunch of GMT tokens and I'm trying to figure out how I want to use them.
I have a decent handle on the pigment modifier genes, but the white marking genes have me at a bit of a loss.
On this guy, what genes could I change in order to try to have him show (or pass on) more grullo coloring and less white? I'm not sure which kit and/or appy genes are the culprits.

If you pull off the W2 it should make him much less white ; if you click the underlined part if the Gene line it will take you to examples :)Thanked by 1OfMoosehorn

Well W20 exacerbates any other Kit Genes adding more white and his white factor on the secondary strand is large which would also add more white. You can remove the W20s and/or lower the white factor which would both help. Here is a horse that is Hom W2 with no other kit/frame and a light white factor to give you an idea of what he may look like, though he would be Het.

Oh, interesting! So turning off this guy's W20 might also help get rid of some of his white as well?

It should help but he's also got W1 and Splash both which add even more white. To be safe, removing the W1 or W2 might be better as you can have a horse that is Hom W20 but has no or little white on him.Bluegrass 272432 | Forest 54250 | Mesa 9056

Here is W1 with no other Kit nor Splash:

I love playing with the white genes! All my lined horses are some sort kit white line.
Now he has a few things factoring in to his whitening out.
I would remove the appy genes associated with varnish because by his age and by how the white on him looks it looks like he is varnishing out. So by 15 you'll have a completely white horse.
Menstrosity is right! W20 exaggerates any other white gene on the horse . It's much safer to have w20 on a horse if you plan to breed them than it is W1, W2 and W3 even some frame and sabino genes.
Next would be the W2 . W2 will create alot of white along the body of the horse and is a very high risk for breeding if crossed with another horse with any white or kit genes. If you like the white genes but don't want so soo much there are some other options.
Dropping the white factor to light or minimal or none will help decrease the severity of it
Changing W2 to another gene like splash or sabino or tobiano or just removing it in general
Remove genes involved with varnish.

Here is an example of a horse that has varnished out.
This guy only has W20 and is appaloosa . His white factor is medium . His color is brown but he had whitened out.

This guy has no kit or white genes or appy
The white factor won't play a role as he has no kit or white genes to factor in.

I second removing the W1 or W2 as they are the deadliest genes in the game.I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!Thanked by 1OfMoosehorn

Removing 1 or two of the Lp's might help as well, especially on the side that is Hom Appy since that can cause an all white solid blanket making him mostly white.Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!
