Help Starting Even Breeding Lines (Boosting/GMTs/etc.)(Paints/Roans/Appys)
  • Hi guys are there any good guides out there for what to do when starting even breeding lines, and ones with appy and paint/roan markings? I am going to be using this post to compile a lot of my gathered information and it would be super helpful if I could get some extra advice :)

With Christmas candy horses I am starting to collect GMTs, and how do you personally choose what horses to modify for breeding? Is it mostly your studs? Do you make your rank special horses into stallions or mares?

I know when choosing a foundation horse, you want to look for the exceptional ones (exceptionally perfect/exceptional producer/etc.) and they will produce better foals in the long run.

I really like paints, roans & appaloosas. For any breeders out there, what genes are you looking for when finding good studs for those markings? Do you have links for what you would consider exceptional studs?

    Stallion Creation/Modifications

    - Do you change consistency?
    - Do you boost foundations and studs?
    - What age do you create your foundations?
    - Do you avoid markings/certain white factors?

    CONSISTENCY
Consistent (1 GMT) is more desirable, correct?

    PERFECT/EXCEPTIONAL
    Perfect Foundation = C/Yellow (100% breeding ability) / PT 9.9
*Exceptional Producer = B/Red Paper (101-105% breeding ability)
    *Exceptionally Perfect = B/Red Paper (101-105% breeding ability) / PT 10.4

    BOOSTING
Can be purchased with IVs & Money
    1% Boost
    5% Boost

    B/Red 105% + 5% Boost => 110% A/Blue Foundation
    A/Blue 110% + ? Boost => Star/Gold

    FOUNDATION AGE
Is it better to create one that is 3 years or as a foal?

    MARKINGS TO AVOID
    W?
    Maybe Frame Overo?
    High white factor?

    Breeding/Keeping Guidelines

    - Always BA or SBA foals
    - Check Consistency
    - Check PT Scores
    - Check Paper Level

    CONSISTENCY
    - Keep Consistent
    - Auction/Sell/GMT Inconsistent Stallions or Mares

    GOOD PT SCORES
(Has no effect on breeding ability/just showing ability)
    G1/Foundation: >9
    G2: >10
    G3:
    G4:
    G5:

    PAPER LEVEL
    G1/Foundation: A*/B/C and Blue*/Red/Yellow
    G2: A/B and Blue/Red
    G3: Star/A/B and Gold/Blue/Red
    G4: Star/A and Gold/Blue
    G5: Star and Gold

    Paint/Roan Markings

    What genes would you modify?

    Tobiano
    TO/TO Homozygous better?

    Frame Over
Would you make a stallion with overo, or would that be best to save for mares so you don't have to worry about double overo?

    Roan
    Rn/Rn would be better

    Kit Promoter
    KP vs KP2

    Appaloosa Markings

    Leopard (LP)
    LP/LP

    PATN1
promotes blanket size / makes full leopard

    Snowflake Varnish
Snowflake causes horses to gradually get whiter or gray out?

    Varnish Regulator 2
Varnish causes horses to gradually get whiter or gray out?

  • I've bookmarked this to come back and type out a full answer. Just too hard on my phone at work.

  • Starting with those first questions...

Everyone plays the game a little differently so I'm not sure a guide exists. It is easy enough to stop and restart a line.

I originally started with C/Yellow foundations but quickly realized I liked the 2nd generation foals from my B/Reds instead - they made the best show horses. Because the ExPros require herd helpers, it made acquiring them a little more difficult which I found fun and challenging. Now all my foundations also have DP - harder to acquire but still doable with GMT tokens.

I originally began GMTing studs as they could produce more foals every year. But once I had a few studs, I ended up GMTing mares so I could have homozygous 2nd generations. I also use a lot of outside straws on my own mares - these gives me 2nd gen horses to cross into my lines for variety. I know in breeding doesn't matter in the game, but I still like to look at diverse pedigrees.

  • I have had the same questions. Thank you for asking! I'll be following along.

  • Commenting mostly to follow, as I haven't been playing very long.

I try to keep my foundation stallions ex perfect or ex producers, and most of my mares are too. All of the ones that I created with points were exper or expro. Once I ran out of points, I became more lenient and started creating some regular mares that were colors I specifically wanted. My cull line for 2G foals is 10.4/Red, unless it's specifically a hard to come by color. But i'm pretty strict on the "average" foals.

  • @lecobb

I read somewhere that when starting out it is better to sell ones that have points under 300 to make extra cash when starting out! That way you can save space for creating the higher pointed ones :) I only keep those under 300 pts if they are expro/exper rank specials!
