Horse Names With Abreviations
-
I've noticed alot of people will put seemingly random letters before or after thier horses names and was wondering what they meant or if they truly are random.
-
In my case : LG(little gremlins) 2(g) Daddy's name Horse ID #
-
Some people use their stable name abbreviations (mine is KA for Khaos Acres and use to be NRH for Norse Riding Horses when my stable name use to be Bambi207)
Others use codes like G1 and G2 for generation 1 or generation 2 and F1 or F2 which is how cross breeding and hybridization is marked per generation in real world breeding (you see it a lot in Bangle Cat breeding for example but its much less common in the game with "G" labling being the most dominant form of generation labeling) -
People also do that because no two horses can have the exact same name. :)I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

It’s a quick way to identify particular traits especially when one has a large herd.
My prefixes tell me whether the horse is a mare or stallion, what generation it is, any particular genetics I am breeding for (I have lines of KP, axiom, chinchilla, plaid, nexus and I try to keep some of them separate but with thousands of breeding horses I don’t have time to sort through them.)
By adding prefixes I can sort by name and move a large group to a pasture without having to pick through all my horses.
They may seem random and since they are personal one person may not assign the same meaning to the same letterBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
As the other have said it’s to help identify your horses easier and because horses can’t have the same name.
So if I wanted to name a horse ‘Rodger’ and that was already taken I could add ‘BL1’ (BLaze 1st Generation) and since I came up with whatever letters/number I want to use I’m almost guaranteed to be able to name my horse ‘BL1 Rodger’
It helps me keep organized and I think it looks nice

For my horses, I do FS first - that means it's a Forestshadow horse. The actual name itself is unique and based on the parent names. For example the sire is Felahiran and the dam is Mituhai, the foal name is Felatuhai if a filly. The number that follows the name denotes which generation it is, so Felatuhai would be FS Felatuhai 2 since her parents were foundations. Now, I always comp test foals, so she would have tested superior for me to keep and name her so she is FS Felatuhai 2 S. That's how I name my fillies nowadays.
My stallions have FS, unique names, generation number. They've got to test superior, but that will be in their notes. Instead, what follows the generation number is what special genes they have using my personal codes. Lower case means they are het for one gene, upper case means they are homo for one gene. -
Ok! That makes sense! Thank You AllThanked by 1Nightphoenix

It could also be indication of papering. As 2B being second generation blue papers or some have initial letters in a name to help organize what line that horse is from.
-
for my horses BS = bootstrapped or otherwise uneven breeding and RS = rank special horses ^_^
-
Currently I use this naming style: papers > generation > $ (just a place holder for my eyes, occasionally I get messages asking if a pony is for sale tho lol) > name.
Example: BLU 2 $ HORSE or B $ HORSE (for a foundation)
For my GMT, favorite lined horses, or special foundies I'll use the prefix OCR > papers > generation > $ > name
I have revamped this a few times, but so far this is the one that stuck lol. I haven't made it to star or gold yet, so i might revamp that naming style when i get there.Post edited by Cherobird at 2021-12-23 07:12:41 -
I put a D(number generation) or DD for foundations on my breeding stock. I've done this for over a decade and I could not tell you what the D stands for. I just don't remember lol.
I put a g in front of all show stock names to bump them down on the dropdowns, and g stands for geld.
