Auctioning Senior Horses
-
If you have a horse that has a high Lifetime Payout, as well as a high Daily Payout, is there a time where you will auction that horse once they get to 17+ years old, knowing that they might not make it to the next
"year?"
I've been playing for a while now and have never really auctioned older horses, but I'm changing some things up and was wondering what everyone did. I currently have a 7-year-old with a daily payout of 119 but a lifetime of 39508; that will increase as he gets older - is it worth keeping him around past 17, knowing he might not make it to the next year when I will receive nothing? Or is it smarter to auction him before 18?

I definitely do not do that. One of my oldest horses now is 30 and earns a little over 18000 hbs per year. If I had auctioned them off, i would have lost WAY more long term than I would have gained in that short term. I have enough horses that make it well past 17 that it’s hugely worth it to keep them until they die.Thanked by 1FiveDiamonds

When I was very low on space, I used to evaluate and cull my low performing show horses when they turned 10. Now that I have plenty of stalls I usually don’t bother. Sometimes I’ll sort a barn by total points and auction any older horses with significantly fewer points than their year-mates, but that’s usually more out of boredom than necessity.
Also in my experience by the time a horse gets to 17 their lifetime payout is usually calculated as below 2500, so that’s all I’d get for them at auction anyways; since I have the space, they make me more money if I take the chance on them passing away each rollover.I mostly play on mobile so I can't usually see signatures!
Breeding Pearl Warmbloods, Little Red Riding Ponies, and... whatever else suits my fancy lol.Thanked by 1FiveDiamonds -
I'm trying to keep my show barns at reasonable sizes. I start culling at 10, plenty of horses end up in low placements in their classes. Those get culled. I try to do it around the 10/11/12 year mark because that's when they are hitting their max scores. I see where they place and what level they are in, if they aren't bringing in much points, they get culled for lifetime payout. I have some of my horses in their 20s but they are still winning classes, so they are top dollar earners.
Culling makes room for more babies so I dont have to buy more barns.Thanked by 1FiveDiamonds
